I am 57 yo white woman working in Phoenix. I support The People Over Property Initiative that stands in opposition to CPLC’s proposed development in South Phoenix. The proposal does not center those directly impacted. CPLC’s development practice reinforces the racial displacement, gentrification and re-segregation. They refused an invitation by Black led organizing efforts for additional engagement on these issues. The refusal is an act of anti-blackness that will no longer be accepted.Tina Luna

I oppose this proposal. It does not serve the community. People over property should be the priority. Please vote no.

The CPLC development project does not have community support and CPLC has refused to have dialogue with the community on the southside. This project is anti-black. This project will gentrify the neighborhood, cause re-segregation and displacing thousands of people. We need to hold developers accountable when they want to come into historical neighborhoods like the southside of Phoenix. Council members MUST vote NO! PEOPLE OVER PROPERTY!

The CPLC needs to engage with and take advice from people of the community in which it is building the project. By not doing so it will inevitably harm that community more and inequitably. Vote no and place people over property.

The CPLC project lacks community support and promotes anti-blackness. The developer has failed to meaningfully engage with the community to meet their needs, ultimately promoting gentrification and displacement of long-time community members. The city council must vote NO on this harmful development. Choose PEOPLE OVER PROPERTY.

The fact that CPLC did not engage in a dialogue with the community members, who will be directly impacted by this development, is unacceptable. This project will likely lead to gentrification of the area, which will cause further displacement of community members. Additionally, several committee members have expressed concerns that this project does not address previous concerns outlined by the committee. This project should not be allowed to move forward.

This is not a community-based housing solution, the Black community, and many others have systematically been left out of this planning. This does not meet the needs of the community, and will in turn cause harm.

CPLC needs to have a more meaningful discussion with BLM Metro Phoenix before this can be approved.

This proposal does not serve its community, but instead will cause harm.

I am white, worked at LISC Phoenix, and study community and economic development. I understand the arguments made for this kind of development, and defense of CPLC as one of the "good" developers. In reality, they have not committed themselves to accountability to the most impacted by health disparity in the South Mountain Village. Therefore, this would be an anti-black gentrifying and resegregating force that is detrimental to our communities and will no longer be accepted.

Phoenix needs more affordable housing, and unfortunately this project does not meet the needs of the community in terms of affordability.

The City Council cannot approve of a project that lacks community support and re-enforces anti-Blackness. When 20% of the surrounding communities households are in mobile home parks and have been identified by the city as “high risk for displacement any developer who refuses to engage in a dialogue about how to meet the actual needs of those most at risk of displacement in the South Phoenix community should be denied.

NO to CPLC. The proposed development does not consider Black lives. Black leadership has been bypassed in this process and we won’t endorse projects that overlook the needs of one community in service of another.

We do not need more overpriced housing. We need developers who will create housing that is ACCESSIBLE to people who live in Phoenix. CPLC must engage with the Black community before moving forward in South Phoenix. Vote no.

I strongly oppose the development of the CPLCP initiative as it will disband families and doesn't properly respond to community needs. Housing segregation by the FHA which began in the early 20th Century continues to provide unequal opportunities for Black populations and CPLCP will force them out of their homes and further systemic oppression. If there is any chance of upward mobility for these communities, you will oppose the CPLCP initiative and invest in desegregating housing in Phoenix.

I strongly oppose the proposal by CPLC until there is further consideration from the community stakeholders that would be impacted by this decision. This puts the members of the community at risk of displacement due to gentrification/resegregation.

I oppose the current development proposal and call for a redraft that is driven by input from the South Mountain Village Community. Development should be governed by South Mountain residents to avoid the risk of displacement (gentrification/resegregation) - promoting safety, growth, and community building from within their own community and for their own community members. Not for the benefit of outside developers or predatory companies.

Please prioritize the needs and voices of the South Mountain residents over this proposal created without input from the community. Community members directly impacted by this development have voiced that the project will not be affordable for current community members which puts them at risk of displacement and will contribute to gentrification. Because the CPLC did not work with residents of South Phoenix to address these concerns, I ask that you oppose this project.

I oppose CPLC’s proposal for a new development plan in South Phoenix.
