I oppose CPLC's proposal for development in South Phoenix. This proposal does not align with the needs of the community--it's absolutely crucial that the city collaborates with South Phoenix community members and allows them to take the lead on initiatives that directly impact them. Gentrification is an act of violence that will not promote safety, growth and community building.

This will allow further damage to communities already in this area. What is needed is community resources, not further gentrification of the phoenix area.

I am writing as a Phoenix resident to urge council members to vote no on this project. South Phoenix does not need more development, it needs more resources and more affordable housing. We need to be listening to the people who are most impacted by health disparities in our community. Local community members and leaders have made it clear that this project will not make housing more affordable for people who live in South Phoenix and will cause harm.

I urge you to vote no, as developments like this must be supported by members of the community to be legitimate. The CPLC, who laughably tout their activist history to shroud their current ties to big business, refused to discuss issues about the development with community leaders, disrespecting the people they're likely to displace. The CPLC president cites his Henson Village project as a success, but former tenants described infestations, hostile management, and even racism. Vote no!

Rezoning this area of South Phoenix will further gentrification that harms the community that inhabits this area. The Phoenix City Council should be helping the community rather than approving ordinances that hurt their marginalized populations.

The community is rejecting this proposal. Listen to your constituents, vote it down, and build something together that works for everyone instead.

The people closest to the problem are closest to the solution. Please do not think that as white people and people of privilege we have any idea what these communities need. They are the ones with the solutions. Please listen to them.

I oppose CPLC’s proposal for a new development plan in South Phoenix. They did not include the most directly impacted community members who live in that space and whose needs have yet to be met in that space. Collaboration with those who are directly impacted is absolutely necessary in order to create a community of safety and care for all.

This proposal does not center the needs of the people it will impact the most. I am in opposition of placing profit and property over people. Invest in communities and listen to those who live closest to the harms imposed by these sorts of decisions.

As a resident and property owner in South Phoenix, I cannot support this initiative as it encourages gentrification and directly harms the community. I oppose this initiative and support the right that my neighbors and community members have to affordable housing.

When a developer is proposing a project in a neighborhood with a 25% Black population, in the middle of a million dollar block (a city block where the state is spending in excess of a million dollars a year to incarcerate the residents), with an 81% recidivism rate, but refuses to engage local Black leadership on issues of housing accessibility for people formerly incarcerated; that developer is anti-Black and should be denied. ⁣

Phoenix City Council members must vote NO on CPLC’s new project.

Gentrification is violence against the community. This is part of a long line of displacement and housing violence, now culminating in the re-segregation of our communities. Development that takes place without continuous dialogue with the Black community is violent and contributes to the oppression of Black people and Brown people that have lived in the community for generations.

I am against the further gentrification of this city. I oppose the marginalization of people of color and displacement of families.

Developers don't help create communities, they destroy them. Gentrification pushes out people that have helped build communities.
    I oppose this item.

When the community who would be most impacted by this development made its concerns about displacement and housing affordability very clear, CPLC refused to engage further with them. This development, and the way it has been pushed forward, are violent acts of anti-Black aggression and must not be allowed to continue.

This development process has not taken into account the safety of the community. A vote in favor of this ordinance is a vote to displace and further marginalize the black residents in the area. This would be dangerous under normal circumstances and is even more so during a pandemic. People over property.

This Development Process has not been cohesive with Community and their needs, Especially all the layers of struggle that the community of South Phoenix is going through currently with Covid-19 as well as ongoing Immigrant attacks that do not seem to stop. CPLC is has time and time again tokenize low income communities to Profit for their own good. Many of their employees have shared frustration with the lack of CPLC's accountability, We need Community lead development.

This development project does not take into account the needs of the community. We need to be working with our people, not against them. This project will result in the displacement of many people and the destruction of lives. Vote no and start working with community leaders who actual care.
