I do not support something that will harm my community, friends and neighbors by decreasing transparency and accountability while increasing funding. Why should OUR PUBLIC money be used in PRIVATE, where we do not have a voice? I have witness the degeneration of this police department and it is an embarrassment and no amount of money will ever fix these deep rooted issues.

In reading not only the MOU as it currently stands, but the revised version PLEA is attempting to pass, it's evident we will continue to fight an uphill battle against a clearly defined police state as long as the people are kept out of the negotiation process. This is not a generalized statement, the entirety of Section 1-4 highlights a clear attempt to shield a department already in the spotlight for gross misconduct and excessive force, from further accountability. I oppose. Passionately.

No one should have to worry about where a budget this big is going, it should be used to help everyone not just used up by the corrupt cops and leave us with lottle to nothing. Its unacceptable and honestly saddening to see. So many people struggle and when assistance is need its nowhere to be found.

No one should be allowed to negotiate in secret when it’s our public tax dollars and safety on the line. Allowing the Phoenix police union contract to be negotiated behind closed doors has resulted in one the most violent and unaccountable departments in the country. The public needs to have access to these meetings. Secret negotiations must end.

Giving residents the leftover crumbs of a city budget overrun by the police department isn’t public safety,

PLEA has proven that it has no interest in either protecting or serving. When the people of this city called for immediate measures to curtail PPD violence, like banning the deadly and unnecessary carotid hold, PLEA responded by boasting that police would simply have to shoot and kill more people.

In the two years since the last police contract was negotiated, the city has spent over $1.3 BILLION paying for the salaries and benefits of Phoenix cops. These are resources being taken from our communities. The priorities for City Council should be driven by the priorities of the community, not secret conversations with the police union.

Its disappointing how much phx police gets more money than things like transportation, libraries, law, etc. they’re not the ones taking me to school. they aren’t the ones giving me books for research projects. it’s disappointing. it’s disgusting. everything is underfunded in the city except for police. yet police do things like kill people in streets, over criminalize people. ALSO KICK HOMELESS PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR SPOTS?? its so sad. really, just embarrassing.

PLEA spends our tax dollars on creating positive public perception and disciplinary defense every time officers brutalize people. People protest to defund an out of control police force, and PPD spends millions responding with even more violence. The City gets sued for excessive force, speech suppression, and other civil rights abuses. Then PLEA asks for more money to cover PD expenses in creating those lawsuits. Council must see that and vote against giving them even more power and money.

Police already get special treatment during investigations that community members do not have. With this contract they are asking for even more time to get their story straight before they are interviewed during investigations. Meanwhile, the families are immediately interrogated for hours without any chance to contact anyone to help.

This process allows cops to negotiate with cops for their benefits, completely unaccountable to community best interests. This leads to a department that gets more funding with decreased transparency and accountability.

Its horrible that PLEA is demanding the City give phx police a 5% raise, additional bonuses, increased sick leave cashouts, and an extra healthcare fund for retired cops while thousands of people across our city have lost jobs, healthcare, and housing during COVID-19. The city already gave $143 million of our COVID relief money to pay for salaries, largely of police. Giving residents the crumbs of a city budget overrun by the police department isn’t public safety, it’s a death sentence.

No negotiations behind closed doors! Nothing that gives more money to cops! Defund the police! Nothing that decreases transparency and accountability!! Nothing that give PLEA more control!!

Phoenix Police Department is one of the most violent, deadly police forces in the nation. There must be transparency (no negotiations behind closed doors), accountability, and NO budget increases. Empower our communities, not the PLEA whose actions continue to tear them apart.

Our tax dollars pay six release officers to do “union” work on city time. Essentially, with our hard earned money, WE PAY THEM to lobby against us. They are hired as a police officer and instead hold a politicized position with taxpayer dollars. We demand better.

I raise the demands of Poder in Action:
    -No negotiations behind closed doors
-Nothing that gives more money to cops
-Nothing that decreases transparency and accountability
-Nothing that gives PLEA more control

No negotiations behind closed doors, no increased budget. Phoenix PD is overfunded as it is and continues to harm citizens and communities.

There needs to be adherence to ARS 38-1104, A.1. there is no provision in the law that requires the City to allow for a representative to caucus with a unit member prior to their interview. Per the law the union representative and/or attorney (if employer agrees) may be present during the interview but as an observer only.
