We want there to be language that makes police behavioral records accessible to the public at any time WITHOUT* an open records request.

Police contract negotiations should NOT be negotiated privately, they are being paid by our tax dollar. Private negotiation has resulted in raised violence from PHX PD to PHX residents and little/no accountability for those actions. $1.3 BILLION has been spent paying salaries and benefits of PHX cops. That money could and should be used to fund resources for PHX communities. PLEA does not need any more control in investigations we need to start holding PHX PD accountable. PUBLIC NEGOTIATIONS.

The people are protesting in ways we have not seen since the 1960s as they demand accountability from one of the most violent police forces in the country. Instead of listening to the people and engaging in a frank discussion about defunding our bloated PPD budget, PLEA is asking for more money and more authority to respond to these protests. City Council has to intervene! Council members should be denying these absurd requests, and instead diminish PPD’s power altogether and defund the police.

The MOU does nothing to increase transparency. Victims of police violence and their families wait months, sometimes years, to get access to materials relevant to incidents and investigations.
PLEA is a political lobbying organization using tax payer dollars. We need to decentralize the money and move it to services needed in the community.

NO negotiations behind closed doors! No more money to PLEA or the POLICE force. reduction of paid police staff for PLEA. Increase transparency and accountability. Language that delineates the notion that police will not be responding to all calls. Nothing that gives PLEA more control. Police with less time to "get their stories straight" and less resources to do so. We want there to be language that makes police behavioral records accessible to the public at any time with an open records request

PLEA isn't even a employee union! It's a political lobby funded by taxpayer dollars. How are they even allowed to be negotiating this contract when they've stolen citizen tax dollars to lobby against community safety (as can be proven with their violent track record/racist political ties)? They've got a history of endorsing anti-immigrant measures from SB1070 to Joe Arpaio and continue to push racist narratives that blame BIPOC communities for crime and violence in Phoenix. This is unacceptable.

I only wish that Arizona was as hostile to police unions as it is to any other kind of union. After they pushed to scrape officers racist Facebook posts, the idea that they need any less transparency is intolerable.

I oppose ANY agenda item that will continue to support and fund the PPD this force and it’s associates have done nothing but terrorize and traumatize the community. My children are scared when they even see a cop vehicle and yet time and time again we see them speeding swerving text/calling while driving and breaking road rules. We see them driving the latest expensive vehicles while their are literally starving and cold houseless neighbors who could benefit from defunding this force (the PPD)

Strongly oppose! No more closed-door negotiations with PLEA/Phoenix Police. They have already had their funding increased. The people should have a say as to what their funding goes towards. They work for us! They are one of the most dangerous police forces in the country! We demand that their funding goes to social services to prevent more death by police in the Phoenix area. No more militarized equipment or tactics against people of color. Full transparency in their funding processes!

There should be absolutely no negotiations behind closed doors about anything that gives more money to police. We demand transparency and accountability. This does not protect our community, nor does it make us any safer. Police need to be held accountable for their actions and provide full transparency to the communites they are serving.

No more closed-door contract negotiations and meetings for PLEA/Phoenix Police. No new budgetary additions to Phoenix Police Department. Our city has one of the deadliest police forces in the country. We cannot reward their aggression and violence. They are hired for and by the public to protect the public. As a community we demand transparency and accountability.

Strongly oppose, we demand full transparency in the process, and that our tax dollars must be used to support social services that actually help people, rather than heightened militarization of our police force.

We need transparency for PLEA contract negotiations, no more closed door meetings. Funding for PLEA from the city enables PPD to avoid accountability and continue terrorizing our communities.

There is no honest & valid reason for negotiations to be behind closed doors. Our community is demanding transparency & accountability, not more secrecy and more lies. Our community wants more money towards things that actually improve our lives: affordable housing, housing the unsheltered, mental health services, affordable child care, etc. More money does not need to go to Phx PD & PLEA does not need more control in order to manipulate & wrongfully attack community organizers.

There should be no negotiations behind closed doors. Nothing that gives more money to cops or decreases transparency or accountability. We should never be giving PLEA more control. I strongly oppose. This in no way protects our community and keeps us safe. Cops need to be held accountable for their actions and have full transparency to the community they are serving.

I do not trust my Phoenix police force. They have repeatedly killed our neighbors and continue to withhold both evidence in those deaths and meaningful change to prevent further killings. This MOU is three steps in the wrong direction. 1: we need community members at the negotiation table, not just in the comments section. 2: we need more city services (see item 91) not a raise for our killer police force, 3: we need MORE accountability for deadly officers, not less. i PLEA with you to vote no

If there is nothing to hide, there should be no problems being fully transparent with the community. No more negotiations behind closed doors. Police and police unions should answer directly to the community and should NOT be doing or passing anything without public oversight and community approval. It is dangerous to allow police unions to operate unfettered without checks and balances. End the accountability vacuum in Phoenix. Do the right thing, City Council. We are waiting.

The current police contract is unacceptable and requires re negotiation. The union should exist to protect police jobs not protect police officers who abuse their power within their job. No other profession has a contract that allows them to be negligent at their duty and remain at work. The police needs to be an organization set up to protect and serve the people of Phoenix not one that people fear and have no recourse against. Re negotiation the contract. Hold the police accountable.
