Do not allocate these funds to the Phoenix Police Department, it will be a wasted effort. Please allocate these funds that will actually help the Phoenix community with funding affordable housing, education, transportation for examples.

LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE. Police DO NOT make our communities safer! They are a public health threat! We demand you defund PPD & invest in health and safety. Take 64 million from TRU and invest in affordable housing, mental health response that doesn't involve police, youth programs, education, childcare, food gardens, parks, and community care. This is proven to make communities stronger and safer. Police destroy lives. Divest 745 million from killer cops and invest in communities now. #DefundPhxPD

Listen to community members who know: police aren’t making communities safer, and have become a public health concern. Move proposed funding from the police budget to the staff and other resources that represent more investment in our health and safety: affordable housing, mental health response that doesn't involve police, youth programs, and parks and recreation activities that make communities stronger and that do not involve the police.

The Phoenix Police Department does NOT need more money! This violent police force does not make me feel safe. I urge the city council to reject any budget proposal that puts police over the health and safety of our community.

If it has not been clear enough already by protests this year and the demands of organizers in Phoenix for decades, the Phoenix police is a violent institution that targets and harms our city's vulnerable communities, is never truly held accountable for their destructive behavior, and continues to take away funding from community programing, resources, and city safety nets. It has been proven that strengthening and FUNDING programs that uplift people materially mitigates crime, not more police.

I oppose this police budget increase. For our community’s wellbeing and safety, we need to relocate the excessive funds currently proposed for the police department and instead create a budget that actually prioritizes us, the people.
We need a police contract to hold Phoenix police accountable with no more special protections, pay raises, or benefit increases.
Fund community safety, not ineffective police reform.

Police are not making our communities safer. They are more focused on protecting property and not people. Do not give more money to the police budget and instead use those funds to invest directly into the community itself (housing, social services, and mental health for example).

Phoenix PD is an enormous sap on our tax dollars. Even Thelda could see during hiring that a lot of the budget allocated for them is WASTED. Defund the police.

Too many people are dying for inexcusable reasons. Our communities are hurting, and all you've done is hurt them more by refusing to hold the policemen accountable. No one is safe until everyone is safe. We want investment in our health and safety; affordable housing, mental health response that doesn't involve police, youth programs and other resources that have been proven to make communities stronger and that do not involve the police.

The city’s ongoing and increased investments in the Phoenix PD will only cause further harm to our community. The best way to serve the people is to redirect funds from the police to what actually keeps people safe: health services, affordable housing, mental health response that doesn’t involve police, youth programs and other non-police community resources.

Phoenix police cops shouldn’t be getting a pay raise or more benefits. This department has proven itself violent, racist, and irreformable- why would you reward that? The police union is the number one protector of this department. Passing an MOU with more protections and more money for cops gives PLEA more tools to maintain this culture of violence and is a guaranteed death sentence for dozens of community members, especially Black, Indigenous, and Brown people.

I support funding for the expansion of the Fire Department Community Advocacy Program. I also support the inclusion of a third party for support of Behavioral Health Services. If approved, please make sure the third party has a good track record working with diverse and multicultural communities. Great to see the recommendation for a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager. However, it is my hope that there is an Advisory Committee of experts outside of City staff.

Increasing the police budget is a direct action against the safety of Phoenix residents. Phoenix police actively intimidate and attack the residents of this city, particularly people of color. Until they are held accountable, they should be defunded. Allocate those funds to programs which directly aid Phoenix residents.
