Don’t you dare spend $250,000 on a study of why this police department is violent, filled with white supremacists, and attacking protesters. You do “studies” whenever you’re trying to avoid holding the police accountable. They do nothing more than create justifications for the violence and racism of this department. If you want things to change, defund the department and invest in the community.

We see right through this BS budget. You are trying to twist our demands to end police violence, and use it instead to grow the police department. We reject your attempts to distract from the real issue- policing is bad for our communities. It’s negatively impacting our health and our safety. It’s time to defund police and invest in people. #DefundPhxPD

Phoenix police cops shouldn’t be getting a pay raise or more benefits. This department has proven itself violent, racist, and irreformable- why would you reward that? Stop giving PLEA more tools to be violent. This is a guaranteed death sentence for dozens of community members, especially Black, Indigenous, and Brown people.

I DO NOT support the increase earmarked for police. We need more investment in our community, mental health services, social justice work, housing and education. The Phoenix police department has shown itself to be violent, particularly to Black and Brown citizens. Any money put towards the community over the violent police force will better serve the people of Phoenix.

I oppose the budget increase for the police. Defund the cops and invest in the community -- we don't want them involved in our health or our safety any longer. This budget proposal twists the community's demands for reform in an attempt to put more money into their own pockets. PHXPD are blatantly showing off how easy it is for them to abuse their power. The police not only mistreat our community, but they also get away with it. And they want to rub it in our faces by taking extra money on top.

Phoenix police cops shouldn’t be getting a pay raise or more benefits. This department
has proven itself violent, racist, and irreformable- why would you reward that? The police
union is the number one protector of this department. Passing an MOU with more
protections and more money for cops gives PLEA more tools to maintain this culture of
violence and is a guaranteed death sentence for dozens of community members,
especially Black, Indigenous, and Brown people.

The reality is that some people are scared to call 911. Let's be a part of the change then. After listening to the community these past months, I support a crisis assistance program that is a separate department from current first responders. This new unit consists of professional health and welfare service members trained in life preservation and deescalation. All non-criminal / non-violent calls will be handled by them, who will not be used as a vessel for policing or deferring to ICE.

It's bad enough that these police kill innocent people and go unpunished time & time again -- now you also want to give them a cash prize? When one of your cops is racist and goes unreported by his peers, then all of your cops are racist. When your racist cops go unpunished, your institution is racist. When your racist institution sees racist behavior and then gives them more funding, we've got a blatant disregard for humanity. Y'all should be ashamed a budget increase is even on the table.

Community has been making it clear all year- police aren’t making our communities safer and have become a public health concern. We want investment in our health and safety; affordable housing, mental health response that doesn't involve police, youth programs and other resources that have been proven to make communities stronger and that do not involve the police.

(1 of 3) I will support this crisis assistance program when the language CLEARLY establishes that trained mental health & de-escalation professionals respond to 911 calls, and NOT heavily armed police. Trained and licensed mental health professionals ought to be partnered w/ an officer not only to protect the citizen in need, but also to protect the officer from missteps or hasty decisions that could result from inexperience in dealing with mental illness, or emotional distress.

This budget needs to address real human needs and not just law enforcement. Most of your social services come from federal and state dollars except law enforcement. It is inappropriate.

Defund the police department and invest in a budget that prioritizes people
Pass a police contract to hold Phoenix police accountable; no more special protections, pay raises, or benefit increases for cops
Fund community safety, not ineffective police reform

I would rather want investments into the community. Have you seen for yourself the amount of people living in the streets? They are struggling to survive in their conditions. Into our education system, preventing the heat dome effect, etc.

The PHX PD have proven themselves to be a violent organization that terrorizes poor and minority communities. Absolutely no money should be allocated to the police budget, for training, new equipment, anything. The police budget is grossly bloated, if they need money they can fire violent officers and sell the unnecessary military grade equipment they use to assault peaceful protestors. City funds should be going to investment in impoverished communities and public health, not the police

Defund the police department and invest in a budget that actually prioritizes people.

We see right through this budget.

We reject your attempts to distract from the real issue- policing is bad for our communities.

It’s negatively impacting our health and our safety.

It’s time to defund police and invest in people.

Our community deserves better than Phoenix PD.

A crisis assistance program is a good start for Phoenix. Its success must include community input from the ground up and should consider the following:

    A Crisis Assistance Program should:
    - Be a separate department from current first responders
    - Consist of professional health and welfare service members trained in de-escalation techniques
    - Respond to all non-criminal / non-violent calls
    - Be marketed as an alternative to existing policing systems without ties to ICE
