I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget.

I oppose the proposed allocation of funds to public safety, I feel it is disproportionate, especially in relation to our needs in this pandemic. I encourage the council to think about what safety looks like for different parts of our community. I support the idea of a civilian review board, and I believe the disproportionate public safety funds should be reallocated to community development and enrichment.

I oppose the proposed budget for the PPD. Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,741 and $26,837,104 budgets for community development and community enrichment. Thank you.

Funding must be adequate for proper civilian oversight of the Phoenix Police Department by funding an Office of Accountability and Transparency (OAT) and Civilian Review Board (CRB). In addition, PD budget should be cut to prevent further militarization of the force.

Council has budgeted $400,000 for the OAT and the CRB. This is far lower than the original projected. The Police Departments budget is set to increase by $25M to a total of $745M...unconscionable.

    Do the right thing.

We need more resources allocated to equitable community engagement and development, unconscious bias education for PHXPD, judicial & other city officials. We need to break the cycle of inherited poverty that plagues people of color to be victims of our broken policing and judicial systems. I disagree with tax dollars supporting an over militarized PD that practices racial profiling and enables officers that took an oath to protect and serve EVERYONE to selectively criminalize people of color.

I am demanding that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021.
Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. The City of Phoenix needs policing alternatives and investments in mental health and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

Reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department and increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. The Phoenix Police Department is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. The city of Phoenix needs policing alternatives/investments. If you truly cared for our community, you would instead consider investing in Community Development.

The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.

Phoenix PD is statistically ranked as one of the highest killings of civilians in the country and rather than confront the issue the city of Phoenix has to decide whether to give them an extra almost $25 million? This money can be used to build the communities found in Phoenix. There are countless places these funds can be redirected towards to such as mental health & trauma services, education/after school care, adequate housing, health care, and employment opportunities.

I oppose the adoption of this budget. With nearly $1B for police who are the most murderous in the nation, this budget is focused on the wrong things. Please increase and redirect funds to heal and educate our community, increasing the proposed $25M and $26M for community development and community enrichment. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate the 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community. - Alexis Finney, Phoenix Resident

I strongly oppose the proposed Police Department budget of $944,680,555. PPD has a history of violence against black people and we cannot reward this inhumane behavior. Please redirect this money to our education system.

Please reconsider the proposed funding allocated for public safety, particularly those allocated for the police department for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. The Phoenix police department is statically ranked the highest for cases of police killing civilians. Phoenix PD have proven that diversifying and training programs have not ended police brutality.

Defund Phoenix PD and allocate fund for fiscal year 2020-2021 to programs that will create and sustain a safe community.

Through the budget, council members are making a value statement. It is time for council members and Mayor Gallego to act and stand with the thousands of Black Phoenix residents at risk. The police department is refusing to fund police accountability, this is the kind of failed policy that increases police violence. A $25 million dollar increase to its budget to cover pay raises and pension costs for cops. READ THE ROOM IT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE. Find the money to fully fund civilian oversight.

Phoenix Police needs our support now more than ever! We can not expect the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect and serve our communities to be able to do their jobs without proper funding!

I cannot imagine encountering a crime in progress, a serious motor vehicle accident, trying to help locate a missing person, or any host of situations that arise every minute in this Valley without being able to summon law enforcement with a quick call to 911. Any suggestion to defund public safety is absurd - we are a nation of laws - we would be a nation of anarchy with no law enforcement.

Due to the fact that the Phoenix police department has been statistically rated one of the highest in the country for civilian death by police hands, I oppose this new budget. I'm not saying the police force is not important, however it's been proven by police departments around the country that new policies and trainings will not stop police brutality. This budget should be reallocated to various education, healthcare, housing, and job recources.
