Please consider directing the proposed amount of $944,680,555 away from the public safety department. It is clear that these funds will not be used to protect all people in our community. Instead, please allocate these funds toward community development and enrichment. We need more funds for programs that heal and educate our community.

Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment.
Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.

Please reject/reduce this budget by 25% and allocate the amount to the Civilian Oversight Committee. Send this message of accountability to ALL your constituents.

I oppose this budget as it allocates an absurd amount to the policy department, which actually serves to oppress civilians and make us LESS safe. These funds would be better spent on community development, schools, childcare, and COVID testing infrastructure. As a citizen of Phoenix, I actually feel less safe knowing that these funds are available to further militarize our police department, and thereby oppress law-abiding citizens.

I oppose this budget allocation. The Phoenix PD has proven to be one of the most VIOLENT in the country. We need to bring about real change, and that starts from within society: education, health access, rehab centers, etc. Fund these programs and help heal the wounds of our community from within. Give POC access to resources to better themselves so they can grow up to be responsible members of society. Fund programs that address social issues at the root cause. Allocate funds where it matters.

Public safety does not need the ridiculous amount of $944 million. End the militarization of our police and invest in community development instead.

I oppose item 44 because there needs to be more funding for the civilian oversight board. With the protests across the country, it is clear that words are not enough. To make a difference we must have real action, and keeping police accountable through a well funded and accountable oversight board is a top priority in our new political landscape. Failure to properly fund it will only lead to more protests and potentially riots or looting hurting residents and small businesses in our city.

I support increasing the funding for our Phoenix Police. While I am disappointed by the travesty of the loss of lives at the hands of some officers across our nation, we know that not all police act without regard for the safety and security of our population. We still need to ensure our police force is adequately funded and have the equipment and staff necessary to protect and serve our communities. Don't use the actions of a few to create a standard we use for the remaining officers.

Our community asks that you redirect funds from Phoenix Police to programs that heal/educate our community. Our city, Phoenix, is statistically ranked highest in the COUNTRY for cases of police killing civilians. Police forces across the country have PROVEN that diversifying training has not/will not end police brutality. Our city needs policing alternatives and investments in mental health services, education, affordable housing, healthcare, employment opportunity, and environmental programs.

While Policing can help mitigate some of worst things that people do, it's far more important to fund causes and programs that help desperate people get the help they need to lead fulfilling lives, including education, drug rehabilitation programs and assistance for the homeless. More education, fewer addicts and more people with actual homes means less need for a police force.

Reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department and increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. We need and deserve policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.

I STRONGLY oppose the Phx PD budget. Defund and disarm the police!!! Redirect police funding to initiatives that ACTUALLY support the community: public education, construction of public housing for low-income and homeless Phoenicians, public healthcare (physical and mental) and improved covid-19 response, comprehensive public transportation, sustainable energy, small business grants, increased citywide accessibility for our disabled community, public art and inclusive open spaces for recreation.

Please reallocate at least 25% from the police and invest it in community development programs, health care, mental health care and for organizations who serve the most vulnerable and homeless. Please also allocate $3 million to the office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board.

The Phoenix Police Department has been statistically ranked one of the highest In police violence. It is important that our funds be allocated towards avenues that can heal and educate our communities. Putting forth funding towards community development and community enrichment such as education, mental health/trauma services, employment opportunities, ones that will aid those who have been marginalized and foster the overall growth and sustain a safe community starting with its people.

Phoenix PD is statistically ranked as one of the highest killings of civilians in the country. These funds should be redirected back into the community, not back into a system that continually harms the people they are meant to protect. Our lives are worth the investment.
