After witnessing yet another unjustified killing of a Black person at the hands of the police and experiencing violence, destruction and mayhem during protests on our streets, I can’t emphasize enough how important today’s City council vote is for our community. I urge you to support $3 million in funding for the Civilian Review Board.
As a Phoenix taxpayer, I urge you to DEFUND PHOENIX POLICE. The city of Phoenix city statistically ranked highest in the county for cases of police killing civilians. The body cams of DION JOHNSON'S shooting while sleeping in his car have yet to be released. The city of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health, trauma services, education, after school care, adequate affordable housing, healthcare, employment opportunities, and environmental programs.
I am in opposition to any increased funding for police in Phoenix, now more than ever. Funding for PD must be drastically decreased and reprioritized, including by fully funding the Civilian Review Board to hold Officers accountable and bring much needed community input into conversations about how we redefine safety. If your budget reflects your values, what does that say when you allocate so much money for police compared to community services that make us stronger?
Funding should not go toward the PD, as it is fundamental that Phoenix prioritizes the well-being of minorities. It is a corrupt system, please defund the Phoenix PD.
I am contacting you to reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year; and to Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment.
The Phoenix PD is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians.
Allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.
This is a perfect time to commit yourself in a meaningful and significant way to a better Phoenix Police Department by increasing the proposed funding an Office of Accountability and Transparency (OAT) and Civilian Review Board (CRB) to meaningful levels. Let’s show that Phoenix can be a leader in the country!
The proposed budget for the PPD is well beyond that of any of the other programs that actually help the community. The PPD budget should be STRONGLY reduced.
I oppose the budget allocations to the Phoenix Police Department. I believe the funds would best serve the community and funds allocated to the PPD should be use to do psychological evaluation on police officers enlisting and current. I don’t believe the amount in funds requested for PPD is viable unless it is for victims of families and the community affected by the unjust actions of the PPD. You have activated the community and now we are paying attention to our money. It will not be the same
We request a reduction in the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to PPD and increased funding for sustainability, housing, public transit, education, and community enrichment. Arizonans will benefit most from a proactive focus on community wellness and stability rather than reactive focus on law enforcement.
I opposed this budget how it currently stands... I am demanding the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget on June 3rd.
I support continued funding for Phoenix Police. While I am devastated by the loss of lives at the hands of some officers across our nation, I know that police officers in Arizona and across the nation act appropriately in regard to the safety and security of our population. We need to ensure our police force is adequately funded and have the equipment and staff necessary to protect and serve our communities. I also believe there must be a better vetting system for in coming recruits.
I strongly oppose increasing the PHX PD budget. Please redirect this money should be used for community enrichment and development. The people need this money, the PHX PD doesn’t. The council has an opportunity to finally serve the Phoenix community, do the right thing.

Police violence against Black & Brown Americans must end. Collected date indicates that de-escalation of police tactics & an emphasis on community-led initiatives does more to protect communities than increased police access to weaponry. (Information sourced from Campaign Zero, 8 Can't Wait, & the NAACP) I'm calling on the Phoenix City Council to cut the $745 million in funding to the police, and redirect those funds to critical neighborhood services.
I support this budget. I think this vote is a knee jerk reaction to the recent events. We need to support our police especially given the recent events & protests. Our police need our backing in more ways than one. If this is what it takes to get them quality training and equipment than we, as citizens they are sworn to protect, should support them as much as possible. Defunding the Phoenix Police Dept would be a regrettable decision!
The Phoenix PD must be defunded. You need to allocate more money to the community to battle against the disparities our minorities and people of low SES face. Please do not continue funding this corrupt system.
I oppose this budget due to the fact that the PPD is ranked one of the most violent police departments in the country, shooting a record number of civilians last year, more than LAPD & NYPD. This is beyond unacceptable to increase the budget and give police a "raise" after proving they make our city and civilians LESS SAFE. Please reconsider the budget with the health and wellbeing of Phoenix residents in mind. We deserve community resources, not increased policing.
The Phoenix Police have a tough job. No doubt. But this force has failed our city. To dedicate $900 million to this force, when they have shown no commitment to reform--that's just irresponsible leadership. Phoenix must do better, and will do better. If you approve the budget in its current state, know that you are not giving Phoenicians what they want or need, but what the unions have bullied their way into stealing from the taxpayer. This decision matters. Please do the right thing.
