I believe that these resources could be better used for the education department or healthcare.

I oppose the 2020-21 budget for the Phoenix police department. It is outrageous that nearly $1,000,000 is set to be handed to Phoenix PD when there are so many other programs in the city that need support. Phoenix public schools don’t have enough school supplies to help students thrive. Arizona has one of the highest drop out rates in the nation and other community efforts need to be prioritized.

I am contacting you to ask that you reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. I ask that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community outreach and development. The PHXPD is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police KILLING civilians.

I strongly oppose. Our priorities should be our communities, the police have failed us time and time again. Let's redirect funds from Phoenix Police to programs that heal/educate our community.

Defund the police. I propose a reallocation of funds at the federal, state and local level from policing and incarceration (JAG, COPS, VOCA) to long-term safety strategies such as education, local restorative justice services, and employment programs. (See the demands at Movement for Black Lives).

Please reconsider the amount allocated to our public service department. There are many areas such as education that need to be distributed funds to support the well-being of our community. In addition, those who are homeless must be considered since there is not enough resources in this city for them to access, which greatly impacts their safety. Through these measures this will provide the community with many more opportunities and creates a safe environment for all individuals.

I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget.

Be the example!. Be on the right side of history. If you don’t defund the PPD you’re sending a message you don’t care about our safety and out voices.
Please consider directing the proposed amount of $944,680,555 away from the public safety department. It’s clear that these funds will not be used to protect all people in our community. Instead please allocate these funds toward community development &enrichment. We need more funds for programs that heal & educate our community.

Hello - I am asking you to reconsider the 2020-21 budget. The amount of money given to the police should go to community improvement. The police are a militarized, abusive and unnecessary group. If you need any confirmation of that, look at social media for 5 minutes. Think back to last summer when we were telling you defund police after they pointed a gun at a black child for taking a toy. Give money to housing, give money to the community.

Increased police contact leads to increased unnecessary arrests and violence. I urge you to consider the state of our country, and to not only continue to fund the Civilian Review Board, but to shift police funds to areas of public need including housing, transportation, community programs, and environmental services. We live in a racially unjust society, supported by redlining, blockbusting, and police brutality. It is your responsibility as public servants to address that racism head on.

I oppose item 44 because we need more funding for the civilian oversight board.

I support the Phoenix PD 100%. I know many of these men and women. They work hard at their jobs, often without consideration of their well-being. They routinely put the safety of our city and citizens ahead of their own. We are one of the largest cities in the country and yet our police department remains under-staffed and under-equipped. Now more than ever they need our support to continue to defend our great city from all threats. I fully support more funding for the police department.

I oppose any portion of the budget going toward the Phoenix Police Department until such a time that the PPD makes changes to department policies to protect the life and safety of people of color in this community. The PPD must adopt policies to stop the unnecessary use of force and the racial profiling that it is known for.

Please reconsider of the allocation of $944K to our public safety department for the fiscal year 2020-2021. I stand with my community in asking to defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-2021 city funds to policies and programs that create/sustain. I am asking for $3,000,000 for a civilian review board to help keep officers accountable.

I oppose because I do not think the funding that will go to the police department is necessary or correct. We need more focus on health because we still have a dangerous virus going around. As a student, we also need to focus more on education as our education system is among the worst in the country. Please reconsider where we allocate our funds.

FUND THE PPD!! To do otherwise is paramount to ANARCHY. I challenge the council to ride with officers for a day, REALLY see how it is. Then decide if you could do better, especially with no funding & support. Do other city programs need more funding? Probably. But I know several existing programs, especially those dealing with mental health, are not deserving of the funds currently received. Evaluate them! You will be shocked! Allow the PPD To protect & serve as they signed on to do!

Phoenix PD is among one of the most violent police forces in the country and we can no longer allow their crimes to continue. They disproportionately target our vulnerable communities and their systemic issues are far beyond the scope of reform. I oppose the budget and suggest that the funds be reallocated towards community development and enrichment programs. Our city must invest in alternatives that will actually benefit our community such as education and affordable housing.
