I oppose the currently proposed budget allocated for the Phoenix PD. These funds would be better serve the community if they were instead redirected towards mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Too much of our tax payer dollars are going to murders under the guise of PHX PD. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment

I oppose the increased funding of the police department and I urge the funding to go towards schools and classrooms that are in need. Increased funding of the police can make the community less trusting of the department, when the money can go to a better cause.

I support the Phoenix Police department. After this week I have witnessed how they stand up for the rights of others even while being threatened and attacked. They are essential workers that have been working during this pandemic to protect our city. Defunding them would hurt the city.

As the city of Phoenix grows, our police department should grow to ensure the needs of its citizens can be met.

I strongly oppose the allocation of increased funds for the Phoenix police department. The community has made it clear that they do not feel supported by - and are in all actuality oppressed by - the Phoenix police department. Investing instead in community development, enrichment, and resource programs would go far more towards supporting this community, and I urge you to divert resources to these types of programs. Invest in peoples' lives and livelihood

How can any police department train, maintain and hire good officers to uphold the values and safety of the community without proper funding? Please support PPD.

Defund the police, the current proposed budget to allocate to "public safety" for the 20/21 fiscal year is overblown and those funds should go to enriching actual public safety such as investing in healthcare and community, such as mental health care services, after school programs, and employment opportunities. We are spending too much money to military outfit our police force and send them against our citizens. Phoenix is statistically one of the highest places for police killing civilians.

I support our first responders! There is not another occupation where men and women put their personal safety and their lives on the line every day. Usually only the negative things make the news, not the thousands of times when justice prevails. We need good people on our police force and we need to pay them well.

The City of Phoenix is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Police forces across the country have proved that diversifying and implementing various training have not and will not end police brutality. The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health, education, afterschool care, affordable housing, healthcare, employment opportunities, and environmental programs. Please help our community.

I am asking the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget. This will work towards dismantling systems of oppression and will be beneficial for all Phoenix residents. This should be a budget priority, and making it one should be your priority. I urge you to increase funding for the OAT in today’s vote.

    Thank you

The police need the funding now more than ever. The Phoenix Police Department is already extremely short staffed. Short staffing cause for long hours and stressed officers. Don’t base this vote off of a few bad officers around the country. When push comes to shove you call the police to help you or your family. Make sure they are there when you need them. Emotions are high don’t let emotions take over a vote right now. Support the budget.

Arizona is one of the worst states for Police Brutality. Under NO circumstance should their budget be increase. Those funds need to go to our SCHOOLS to better our future and ensure that Arizona is no longer one of the worst states for education as well.

I strongly oppose the increased budget for the Phoenix police department of the 2020-21 fiscal year. This pandemic is affecting more and more people everyday. Nurses are still reusing personal protective equipment which is extremely unsafe and unethical. This is where these funds need to be directed to right now.

This saddens me to the very core. We cannot take away funding from the police department. Those men and women are working hard to keep the community safe. I do not want a crack whore coming to the rescue if I need help when calling 911. This is outrageous and some city counsel seats are abusing their powers by even suggesting this. We need better city leadership so this is not even a suggestion. Let's support our police department. The mass does not represent the few who make wrong choices.

    Hello,

I am strongly urging you to make the appropriate vote to substantially increase the Office of Accountability and Transparency as well as the Civilian Review Board budget from $400,000 closer to the $4m budget for 2020-2021 year.

I look forward to you doing the right thing for our community.

    In partnership,

    Carranza Guidry

I strongly oppose the increase in the PPD budget and I urge to city of Phoenix to consider allocating funds to healthcare, education, and quality of life for communities in need. During this pandemic and civil rights movement we should be investing in our marginalized communities.

I oppose the allocation of $944,680,555 to the Public Safety Department for the 2020-21 FY. The City of Phoenix Police Department has a deplorable record of violence, including having the highest number of police shootings in the country in 2018. I join many other community members in demanding that funds be re-allocated to community development and community enrichment. Police reform has proven ineffective - it's time to defund Phoenix PD and begin directly investing community-led initiatives.
