Spending this much money on police when we have overcrowded classrooms, overextended and underfunded teachers and social workers, and so many people who are food insecure and out of work is obscene. There have been so many studies that show that increased spending on social programs and community care and decreased funding for police actually DECREASES crime. Phoenix is a forward thinking city. Please reject the pressure to conform to an existing system and vote against. We can do better.

I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget.

I strongly oppose the allocation of increased funds for the Phoenix police department. The community has made it clear that they do not feel supported by - and are in all actuality oppressed by - the Phoenix police department. Investing instead in community development, enrichment, and resource programs would go far more towards supporting this community, and I urge you to divert resources to these types of programs. Invest in peoples' lives and livelihoods.

Please fund our police department and fire department- we need them and they need the funding to continue doing what they do best to protect our community

Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Continuing to prioritize defense spending is only grows internalized fear in our communities - fear of outsiders - fear of some unknown danger. This fear puts power in the hands of those that don’t have adequate cultural sensitivities to help (police). It needs to end - we need to give our communities the tools to improve from within and treat the cause rather than symptoms.

I oppose a budget increase to the Phoenix police department. Funds should be directed towards our severely underfunded education system to provide our students with the resources and services they need to thrive. Students need more than crowded classrooms where they are pushed to master standards for a state mandated test. ALL need access to a holistic education that nurtures their creativity, and recognizes / addresses mental health issues and economic disparities. Invest in the future!

I strongly oppose the nearly $1 billion allocated to the Phoenix Police Department. The Phoenix PD is one of the most violent in the nation and needs serious and swift reform. Phoenix residents and workers can not accept being policed by an institution which such a comprehensive history of violence and brutality and antagonizes and unfairly targets minorities and the poor. This $1 billion should instead be directed towards building up community infrastructure, environmental, and social programs.

I oppose a budget increase for PHXPD. I demand a 25% decrease in the police budget in order to reinvest the funds in the health of our communities by instead investing in affordable housing, public transportation, and Head Start. Police violence is a public health epidemic, I ask that you fund the civilian oversight board with the $3 million that's necessary for its functionality. Please do not balance our budget on the backs of communities that already face the worst inequities.

I oppose the proposed $944,680,555 to the Phoenix police. It is too high and grossly misunderstands what our community needs to be safe and sustainable. I urge you to fund alternatives to policing and invest in social services, education, affordable housing, and basic resources for all Phoenix residents, especially those at the margins. Police do not make our city safer.

Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create a safe community

Please defund the Phoenix Police Department and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that are designed to enrich the community such as investing in mental health and trauma, after school care, healthcare, housing, and employment opportunities.

The community would be much better by redirecting funding from the Phoenix Police Department to increase the proposed budgets for community development, community enrichment, and the Office of Accountability and Transparency.

We need to continue to fund the police department as we are already understaffed. During these recent protests Phoenix has had to use resources from the state to help protect the law abiding citizens and buildings from being vandalized. To ensure a safe community the funds for the police and other first responders needs to continue. The people who wish to defund the police need to think of how it will be when they need to call 911 for a crime against them or their families and no one answers.

I am a Resident of Phoenix, and I oppose any increase to the Phoenix Policy Department. We have other concerns and issues at hand in regards to COVID-19 and other concerns affecting our city that money is desperately needed. Please Allocate any Police Funding increases to something more productive. Phoenix has a police problem and giving more money without thoughtful consideration to alternative policing methods, will not help that problem. Also Sal DiCiccio, unblock me from Twitter you cow.

I request that you redirect the funding increase from the Phoenix Police Department to Community Development and Enrichment and mental health resources. Our community needs healing and education, not more support to a police department that is harassing and killing African Americans and other people of color.

Please support this. Our officers are working harder than ever, especially during these times of unrest and they’re even working longer hours without rest. I support this!

I fully support our police and first responders! We cannot over look the hard work, sacrifices, and good they do. While I agree there is room to make some changes, these cannot take place without the proper funding.

The proposed budget for PHX PD is too high. Invest in community services, mental health, public schools, healthcare, and social justice. We know that communities that invest there rarely require police to use violent tactics. We also know through research that police budgets for body cams and trainings do not work, so that is not an excuse. PHX PD does not make me feel safe and ranks high nationwide in killing citizens.

Members of the Phoenix City Council -

The Phoenix PD has done a tremendous job making residents of Phoenix feel secure and safe. They protected our communities and neighborhoods when it mattered most, all while being under-staffed. I support fully funding the Phoenix PD. Our officers deserve our support and continued funding for staffing, training and appropriate resources needed to protect public safety. A fully funded & well trained police force is crucial to a safe and progressive Phoenix!
