It is irresponsible to allocate so much money to one of the country's most dangerous police forces. Understanding that public safety also includes the fire delartment, I ask that the Council consider using the nearly $1B to repair and restore the community. This includes mental health services, affordable housing, education and after school care, and development of empathetic and effective homeless support. History is watching you.
Our community demands that the $944,680,555 allocated to public safety be redistributed to investments in mental health and trauma services, education & after school care, adequate housing, healthcare & employment opportunities. Phoenix PD is highest in the US for cases of police killing civilians. PD’s nationwide have proven that police reform training will not end police brutality. Increase the budgets for community enrichment and give Phoenix the policing alternatives we deserve.
Please consider 1) shifting the proposed funding for the Phoenix PD to community development and enrichment 2) consider alternatives to policing through the community and 3) fully fund the civilian review board. The Phoenix PD has been shown to be violent and ineffective in protecting and serving the community. This is above partisan politics and I call on you to do what is right by the people who elected you and protect them and make the budget reflect their wants and needs. Thank you.
Please reconsider the rather enormous $944,680,555 budget you propose to allocate towards "Public Safety" and instead consider increasing the rather anemic $51,597,756 budget proposed for community development & enrichment. The Phoenix Police Department is known to statistically be amongst the highest in the nation responsible for civilian deaths. We the people do not need a militarized police department or any more police brutality. We ask that you fund the healing & education of our community.
I strongly oppose increasing the PPD budget. I suggest we allocate these funds to education, mental health, housing and other resources that would better serve our community.
I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget.
We need preventative care for our citizens, not punitive correction. Mental health, education, affordable housing, living wages. These are all positive measures that are statistically proven to curb crime and increase public safety. Punitive correction only serves to make the citizenry afraid. Where is the love in that? Let's invest funds into love and support for our community, instead of relying on harm and instilling fear!
Our community asks that you reallocate funds from Phoenix PD to programs that actually heal and educate the community. Phx is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Police across the US have proven that diversifying & implementing various training have not & will not end police brutality. As a teacher in Arizona, I believe Phoenix deserves & NEEDS better alternatives & investments in mental health/trauma services, education, healthcare, & employment.
Allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020-2021 budget. HOLD THE PHX PD ACCOUNTABLE. Show us you are listening. Redirect the majority of the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department to budgets for community development & community enrichment.
The city of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, equitable education, after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Please consider redirecting a portion of the enormous amount of fundI guess that has been allocated to our public safety department toward the community development and community enrichment budgets instead. Our city needs programs that heal and educate our community.
This money should go towards our homeless population, families affected by covid-19 and into our prisons to support those who are being released and teaching them differently so that they don’t end up back in prison once repeating the same patterns!
I ask that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020-2021 budget. This will work to hold Phoenix PD accountable and benefit Phoenix residents. This is an urgent matter and cannot wait for future budget years.
We demand that the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. I ask that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development & community enrichment.
The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives & investments in mental health & trauma services, education, after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, & employment opportunities.

I oppose a budget increase to the Phoenix police department who have an incrediblly high number of cases against them for police brutality and killing civilians. I believe it should be reallocated to other resources to help the community. Thank you.
It is a municipality’s duty to keep its citizens safe. Our Police Department has not grown with the city. Lack of officers means overworked employees & crimes unable to be investigated properly & timely. No one will come to Phoenix, or stay, without a proper Police department. As crime rises, people & businesses will leave & revenue with it. This budget must be passed & more police officers hired to protect the future of our city & keep its citizens safe.
I am extremely concerned at the idea of allowing our police force to go forward without adequate funding. Part of the problem is that they are stretched too thin already. Better training and oversight is needed to keep good officers and get rid of bad ones. This can’t be done if they are understaffed and underfunded.

DEFUND THE PHOENIX POLICE DEPARTMENT.
