I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget. The police must be held accountable to the people they are intended to protect and serve.
Please reconsider the proposed $945M allocated to public safety department for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our communicate. increase the proposed budgets for community development and community enrichment. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-2021 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.
I am urging our local leaders to hold the police and their militaristic tactics accountable. Some of the videos I've seen in the past week are among the most disturbing/concerning that I've ever seen. The Civilian Review Board and Office of Transparency and Accountability need to be fully funded ($3M), if not have their fund doubled. Please consider holding those who have abused their power accountable and restoring checks and balances here in our community.
Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community. Do not allocate $944,680,555 to our public safety department. Redirect that money to severely underfunded community development and community enrichment budgets. The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education, and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
The proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year does not fund programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development & enrichment. The city of Phoenix deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health & trauma services, education & after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. AZ is a lethal state, but we don't have to be.
With everything that's going on right now, I feel that it would be ill-advised to increase the budget of the Phoenix PD. I get that public safety is important. I get that budgets need increasing. But I don't believe that police violence or shootings of individuals who are unarmed or in custody are equivalent to public safety. If the budget increase were going towards more officer training, or transparency, it would be a different story. I would appreciate clarification.
I respectfully oppose the excessive budget proposed for Phoenix PD. The funds need to be appropriately allocated to our community organizations that provide tools for our citizens to succeed. Phoenix PD held the #2 spot in the nation just a short time ago for police shootings. Phoenix PD and Chief Jeri Williams need to de-militarize the police force and re-train their officers how to properly protect and serve the people of the 5th largest city in the United States. ENOUGH is ENOUGH
Our community ask that you redirect funds from police to programs that heal and educate our community. The City of Phoenix is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Police forces across the country have proven that diversifying and implementing trainings have not and will not end police brutality. The City of Phoenix deserves policing alternatives and investment in mental health & trauma services, education & after school care, healthcare, etc.
I urge you to use a portion of the police budget on increased training for the officers. De-escalation and negotiation training is needed now more than ever. Society needs law and order. I agree that we still have room to improve, but I understand that that improvement requires the funding that you are proposing. It is wiser to fix what we have than tare it down and start anew. 911 operating times depend on funding for our officers and firefighters. Our community cannot survive without them
Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community. The Phoenix PD is one of the deadliest in the country. Instead, increase the proposed budgets for community development and community enrichment. Our city deserves policing alternatives and investments in our community.

The news has definitely been hard to watch the past week. I totally support our police officers and all that they do. I could not do what they do on a daily basis. Could you?
I support all of our first responders. I know a lot of amazing Phoenix Police officers. They put their life on the line every single day to keep our city Safe. They have done so much during this chaotic time to keep peace in our city. My father was also a firefighter and I know how hard he worked. It was a huge sacrifice for him. He worked long hours without sleep to help others.
PHD PD is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. This is devastating and embarrassing and we need to do better. Redirect the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to the PHX PD to programs that heal, educate and empower our community. WE DEMAND policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education, after school care, adequate housing, healthcare and employment opportunities. Listen to your taxpayers.
Please consider reallocating just some of the nearly $1B in public safety spending to programs for community enrichment, mental health, and employment services in Phoenix. We need more trauma services and less trauma.
