I oppose the increase in funds to the Phoenix Police Department. Citizens are dying at the hands of the police. Public funds are paying for it. It is not okay. Defend the police and allocate funds to building communities.

I strongly oppose the proposed budget for the public safety department. These funds would better be allocated for community enrichment programs.

I'm opposed to adding additional funds to an grossly over-funded Phoenix Police Department. The funds would be better allocated to the medical professionals first for medical equipment for a still very active global pandemic. As well as allocating funds to a consistently underfunded education system. If anything, funding should be pulled from the Phoenix PD and given to better the community.

I strongly oppose the 994 million dollars of funding to the Phoenix police department that is being proposed in this budget. Over the past week, police forces across the nation have shown nothing but a gross disregard for the safety of people they are meant to protect. As a fellow taxpayer, I strongly believe that that money would be more well placed being diverted into general funds, such as our public school system and community development.

The valuable funds should be better spent on positive community initiatives, like food and shelter, mental health services, and education. The police need their budget drastically reduced; they need to be retrained in more de-escalation methods and non-violent techniques, they need to be held accountable, and they need their supply of tactical and military-grade weaponry removed.

I am vehemently opposed to the proposed billion dollar budget for the Phoenix PD. This department is statistically the most deadly city policing organization in the country and it is absolutely indefensible to allow this amount of resources to be used to further expand and militarize this department. Rather than squandering this funding by enabling PHXPD to perpetrate more violence in our communities, this funding MUST be redirected to community development and enrichment. Defund the police.

I support the allocation of $944M to Phoenix Public Safety. The Phoenix Police Department (PPD) is currently underfunded and understaffed for the amount of citizens they serve. The allocation of these funds should not be used to increase militarization of Police, but rather evaluate and update training to better serve the community and POC. PPD is in need of more officers, and when brought on implement new training and de-escalation techniques.

We need to dramatically reduce the budget to Public Safety & our yearly budget is a reflection of our current state. Some of that allocated money can go more towards our infrastructure, transportation, homeless care, healthcare facilities, social worker salaries & community development programs. It is clear nationwide that police presence increases violence & death without consequence, Phoenix being among them so, its time for a change. Reduce the budget, reduce the problem, increase solutions.

I strongly oppose the public safety spending in this budget as I would like to see the phoenix police department significantly downsized, and the money returned to the general fund for other use

There are far too many acts of police brutality across the nation as of late to justify spending this money on police forces that don't value the safety of citizens. The money would be much better spent on our road work, the school system, public transportation, or virtually anything else. These would instead be good and productive places to put money.

Reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to the public safety department for the 2020-21 Fiscal Year.
Divert funds to proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and enrichment.
2018 police shootings were at record levels in Phoenix, greater than any other city.
In light of recent events, including the death of Dion Johnson, it is more important than ever to hear your community’s pleas for change to our deeply flawed system.

I strongly oppose the allocation of $944,680,555 towards the public safety department for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. The Phoenix Police Department is one of the most lethal in the country and should not be rewarded for senseless violence. Instead I demand you use taxpayer money to support the community for the future and increase spending on education, public housing, healthcare, and helping marginalized communities.

As a tax payer, I'm strongly against the increased funds towards the police department. And in light of the pandemic and the protests for social injustice, the last place where almost a billion dollars should be funded to, is the police. The money should be aimed towards helping the community. Thank you for your time.

Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated our Public Safety Department for 2020-21 Fiscal Year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budget for community development and community enrichment.

Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.

I strongly oppose this budget which includes nearly 1B of my hard earned tax dollars to the Phoenix Police Department. I am strongly opposed to having my tax dollars fund a racist and oppressive system that is SUPPOSED to protect and SERVE their citizens. Instead they kill innocent people and only really protect the rich and their precious capita.

I’m deeply concerned with the proposed budget for 2020-2021, especially the $944,680,555 to the Police Department. The police force is heavily militarized and brutalizes our community, yet Phoenix is proposing to give them 73% of the general budget? That’s not right. Please stand with us on the right side of history and reallocate the funds to community enrichment and development.

Phoenix PD is in the top 3 deadliest police departments in the US. From 2013-2019, they killed Black & Latinx people at 2.9x & 1.1x the rate of white people. We need to reallocate funds from the public safety department to the budgets for community development and community enrichment. Phoenix needs investments in civilian oversight, mental health and trauma services, education, after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Your community needs positive change!

Cops don't need more money to protect and serve poorly. Send it somewhere else.

$944 million going to "public safety?" I write safety in quotes because the police, DPS, ICE, Border Patrol, and other government agencies are not keeping the public safe. They are terrorizing the people that live here. A DPS officer recently killed Dion Johnson, a black man that was asleep in his car, and we have heard nothing. Police are being violent towards protesters. To say that our government is a disappointment would be an understatement. This money can and should be put to better use.
