I strongly oppose increasing the funding for our police department. I refuse to support department that harms and kills our citizens. Please place the funding on education and community development.
I am strongly opposed to any increase in Phoenix PD's budget. Please reallocate these funds to support the vulnerable and marginalized members of our community who suffer at the hands of the police department.
I strongly oppose the proposed budget for law enforcement, and support the proposed $3 million to fund the civilian review board. These funds should be directly taken from the Phoenix PD budget as to not further siphon funds from other public services that are drastically underfunded.
I opposed expanding the police force budget and support allocating those funds to the community through housing and education. The funding for the Office of Accountability and Transparency needs at least $3 million dollars to be able to hold one of the deadliest police forces in the country accountable. I stand against the militarization of our police and the brutalization of the black community.
The proposed $400,000 for the Civil Oversight Committee is incredibly insufficient funding for oversight of a $712,000,000 proposed Phoenix Police Department budget. You must prioritize oversight and reducing police brutality by funding an Office of Accountability and Transparency (OAT) and Civilian Review Board (CRB) with $3,000,000 in the proposed City budget. Ending police brutality should be a budget priority. Justice should be a budget priority. Without oversight, there are no consequences.
Increasing funding for the police when so many social services are needed would be a horrible idea under normal circumstances. To do so during a pandemic is criminal. To do so in contravention of the will of the people, and at a time when police violence against (disproportionately black) Americans is rising at a frightening rate, is outright tyrannical.
I absolutely oppose the adoption of this budget. With nearly $1B for police who are the most murderous in the nation, this budget is focused on the wrong things. Please increase and redirect funds to heal and educate our community, increasing the proposed $25M and $26M for community development and community enrichment. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate the 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community. - Melissa Forbes, Phoenix Resident, 6/2/2020
I feel that that budget for the Phoenix Police department is far too high considering that the other programs are greatly underfunded. The PPD does not need that much money to function. I believe that the money would be better spent for Environmental services since Phoenix is geographically prone to more pollution and our recycling system is greatly lacking in such a severe time of climate crisis.
I strongly oppose the allocation of 944k to Phoenix police. PPD is one of the deadliest police forces in the United States. As a member of this community, I want our resources invested in community wellbeing-healthcare, community organizations, education, housing.
I strongly oppose the approval of additional funding of the police. The budget must be reduced, and solutions must be reanalyzed. We need better programs such as oversight committees and community initiatives. We need to put our resources towards building our community up instead of continually bringing it down. We don’t need extra enforcement, we need thoughtful solutions!
I strongly oppose an increase in funding to the Phx police.
In the proposed budget, OAT only receives $400,000 in funding. However, it is anticipated to cost $3 million.
$400,000 is not enough resources for OAT to guarantee full oversight over a $721 million dollar police department. City Council needs to give the community the civilian oversight power we were promised!
Ending police brutality should be a budget priority. Without oversight, there will be no consequences.
I am urging you to reallocate money from the Phx Police force budget to better serve the communities themselves within Phoenix, especially in the time of a pandemic. Placing faith in one of the most lethal police forces in the nation as our "safety" is not the answer when these times are so uncertain. We need funding for community programs, development, and social services.
I oppose this absurd amount of funding added to protecting the "public safety". The public safety would be better protected if money were given to helping any number of different social issues, which would decrease crime, better the environment, and increase health and happiness of people in Arizona. Please do not use this much money on protecting the public when protecting the public could be better done otherwise.
I strongly oppose the proposed budget. Funding needs to be reallocated to supporting community organizations. The Phoenix PD have enough funding and are clearly ineffective, funding community programs is essential to creating long lasting systemic change
How much of the $944,680,550 will be used to further militarize our police department and brutalize first amendment demonstrators? How is our police department accountable to our communities of color? Why is Phoenix still among the deadliest cities in the country for police shootings? I strongly oppose all those things. Invest in communities. The Civilian Review Board needs at least $3 Million.
I strongly oppose the detailed amounts set forth for Police enhancements. Please instead consider allocating these funds out to public education, infrastructure and public health. Use the money set forth towards “public safety” to finding those in power who have affiliations with white supremacist groups. They are the real threat to the public
I strongly oppose increasing the funding for our police department. I refuse to support department that harms and kills our citizens. Please place the funding on education and community development.
I vehemently oppose any increase of the Phoenix police department budget. These funds belong in actual social services such as education and housing.
I oppose the funding of the Phoenix PD and would like to see the funds be reallocated to healthcare, community education, unemployment, and housing.
