I oppose this item being passed. That money can be used to help better and enrich the community. With so many potential benefits that money could provide, it does not need to go towards Phoenix police. They have enough money and they always have. Please consider using the money to bring about positive changes for the community and the people.
I strongly oppose the proposed budget for PHX PD. Our public safety department is grossly over-funded and we MUST redistribute to programs that build community.
Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education, and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
I am strongly opposed to the proposed budget. We must increase the budget for community development and community enrichment and defund the Phoenix PD. Our city's police department has the highest number of cases of police killing civilians in the US. We NEED to focus on investing in mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, healthcare, adequate housing, and employment opportunities.
This system that is supposed to keep citizens safe is immensely flawed and needs major reform to ensure the safety of all citizens without those citizens facing racial injustices we see daily. Change is needed not more funding.
I oppose this budget. The allocation of funding to the Phoenix Police department serves to uphold police violence and the deadly antiblack racism it reinforces. Our communities will be much safer if these funds are reallocated to housing, education, and healthcare access.
Please consider allocating this budget back into the community instead of the police department. Invest in our youth with education programs and aftercare, help those who are sick and still recovering from COVID with healthcare initiatives, consider a rent forgiveness program, or appropriate mental health support for this in need.
I do not agree with the Phoenix Police Department’s budget or the Golf Course budget. Golf courses are a waste of natural land. The Phoenix PD should be defunded.
I oppose this budget, in favor of reviewing the following: current needs for community development and mental health, clearer funding allocations for the newly voted in police review board, clearer funding towards police deescalation training, and a thorough review of the multiple lines of funding for police services, with review if funding can focus on more community development for the FY2021 year.
I am strongly opposed to this budget. I believe we need to defund the police and reallocate funds to education, housing, and healthcare programs that will actually help build a better community as oppose to oppress it!
I oppose increased funding to the Phoenix PD. We must reallocate these funds to community development and enrichment. The Phoenix PD is an institution of racism, with some of the highest incidences of police brutality. Police are not protecting their community because they are weapons of oppression. Please do better by your citizens and the black community. I respectfully request that you defund the Phoenix Police Department.
950 Million to an organization that was the nation leader in Police killings from 2018 to 2019 and STILL resists civilian oversight. Defund the police, abolish the police union and the blue line of silence.
Please reconsider the proposed allocation to the public safety department and reduce funding to police. Please use more of this funding towards communities.
Comparing the nearly $1 bill. for public safety with the funding for Community Devel./Enrichment, we get a clear picture of the City’s misaligned priorities. Reallocate resources in line with the needs of the community (e.g., community-based policing alternatives and services). Ranked among the highest in the US for police killing civilians, we must stop militarizing our police and protect the lives of our Black community members/community members of color. Fully fund the Community Review Board.
This proposes a budget of over $944 million for defense forces in the 2020-21 fiscal year. Considering the Phoenix police have the highest rates in the country for murdering civilians, it is obvious that less money needs to be spent funding countless deaths of our people. Instead, I propose that more funding goes to programs like community development and community enrichment. Their budgets of $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 should be increased dramatically. Defund the Phoenix PD.
Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. This is of EXTREME importance to me as a constituent.
The city needs to realize that we’re 600 officers short. We’ve been behind hiring since 2008. Are we going to continue to have officers who are putting their lives on the line every day for the citizens of this city without the additional help that they need? It’s time the city wakes up and appreciates the quality and the dedication of our men and women in blue .
With this negative attitude towards our officers more will retire and more will leave people need to get a grip and soon
Please reconsider the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2020-21. The city of Phoenix should reallocate funds to community enrichment and development. A community can flourish when funds are allocated through proper channels, not to undermine the safety of its diverse members. We should not be funding an already highly funded organization that further oppresses and marginalizes its community members. I respectfully request you defund the Phoenix Police Department.

I vote to defund the Phoenix police
