Too much money is spent funding a law enforcement system that is not properly protecting us. We need to redirect this money to the citizens, the schools, nonprofits and city projects. This funding should be for the people, and not the corrupt oppressors of the people.

As a resident of Arizona I am calling to demand that the city set an example for the rest of the state by doing the following: Defunding of local police forces and the accountability of officers involved in violence against all people in our community, especially people of color. Police officers should not be allowed to employ the use of excessive force against any human being in any circumstance, including the use of military grade weapons and equipment.

Strongly oppose the overfunding of one of the most deadly police departments in the nation.

I strongly oppose allocating more funds to the Phoenix Police department since the department is one of the deadliest in the nation; this would be too excessive. Instead, the allocation of monies should be directed to community rehabilitation programs to create a positive dynamic with the community, not a relationship defined by brutality, shootings, and fear.

I support the budget. We could definitely implement this and also save money if we added all of these ‘anti-police’ people commenting below to a “do not serve list” — if and when they need the police, simply don’t respond. We could save a ton of money!!! 99.9% of police are good and we have your backs! Don’t like the police and want to keep bashing them? Simple - don’t call them when you need help. But we all know the moment you were in danger you’d dial 911 — so your fake rage is a JOKE!

I wholeheartedly oppose the potential increased funding of the Phoenix Police Department. Funding should be used to support communities, not increase the power of an oppressive and fascist police force.

Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment.
⠀Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community

I'm a Phoenix resident and strongly ask that you reconsider the proposed $944 million budget. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. The city of PHX needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate the 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.

The police department does not need more militarization to use against those they are supposed to serve. Clean up the violence and racism which are rampant in our police force. Use our taxpayer money to better our community instead of attacking it.

I strongly oppose the current budget. We need to invest in healthcare, education and after school programs, housing, employment opportunities and other vital community services—NOT the police. Reform and training programs have not done enough to reduce violence against civilians in Phoenix. We must defund now and put dollars toward real, positive change.

I strongly oppose giving the Phoenix PD, one of the most deadly in the country, a $30 million budget increase while scaling back funding for the Office of Accountability and Transparency, Community Enrichment, and Environmental Services like ADEQ. As we saw with Antonio Arce and Dion Johnson, it's clear we can't trust them to act responsibly on their own, and their militarization funded by our tax dollars has only increased hostility.

Please reconsider the proposed 944,680,555 allocated for public safety for this coming fiscal year. Instead, invest in our community! Redirect these funds to the proposed budgets for community development and enrichment!

Phoenix PD's policing has far too often been on display for unjust, discriminatory and unwarranted displays of violence and inequity. Allocating $944,680,555 for the police while community development and enrichment only get a combined $51,597,756 is an insult to this city. I want to see my tax dollars invested in the COMMUNITY, NOT the police.

I oppose the $944million+ proposed for “Public Safety”. How do you justify calling the brutality of the Phoenix PD, “public safety”?? Your citizens and residents are DYING. They are dying because of your lack of funding into proper health, food, and housing support. They are dying because of lack of funding into basic healthcare and testing during a pandemic. They are dying at the HANDS AND GUNS OF THE PHOENIX PD. Defunding this racist and violent “protection” force is the LEAST you could do.

There is absolutely no need to increase budgetary spending towards the Phoenix Police Department. It should be evident in light of recent and ongoing events that any movement to allocate more public funds toward a department with critical system failure and transparency issues would be dangerous and corrupt at best. Revisit this draft and reduce police budget significantly.
