Reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. The Phoenix Police Department is ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Phoenix needs policing alternatives and investments in mental health services, education, and housing.

I oppose the allocation of 994,680,555 for public safety. As other programs are cut the deadly police force in the country is receiving money that could be better allocated in ways that prevent crime.

As a citizen of Phoenix, I would like to see a decrease in the budget and have the money allocated to programs and aid for our community. The police are not protecting us.

Funds should be allocated to fund communities

The proposed budget for police needs to be revised. It's cheaper and more proactive to go up stream to solve a problem. Money spent on education, poverty, and physical and mental health will prevent many issues. Before the PPD spends any money they should be required to retrain. I have personally witnessed a police office point a rifle point black at a man on the ground with his hands up while two other offices arrested him. There are other means of ensuring your safety.

I strongly oppose any increase funding for the Phoenix Police Department. Instead I support full funding of the Police Civilian Review Board.

We do not need police right now or ever. But especially not during this pandemic. Funding for them police right now would be better spent on literally anything else.

I strongly oppose the proposed allocation of $994,680,555 to our public safety department. The Phoenix PD is not ranked the highest in civilian deaths because it's underfunded. If they need additional funds they can sell some military surplus.

I oppose increasing Phoenix police funding. Their treatment towards black people and people of color is not reflective of a group supposed to be keeping the community safe. The additional funding should be going to fund education, jobs, and our communities. It is disgusting that the Phoenix police abuse their power and lack the training to know how to handle situations without having to shoot innocent black and POC and get away with murder on a daily basis. Black Lives Matter!

    Hello,
Upon reviewing the proposal I hope you will take the time to reconsider the $944,680,555 that is being proposed for Public Safety and taking time to see if it is not more responsible to reallocate that increase to Community Development and Community Enrichment. This would better serve a community that is in need of support during the COVID crisis as well as take a hard look at what the priorities are for our people.

I am contacting you to reconsider the proposed $994,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. The city of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma.

I am vehemently opposed to the proposed billion dollar budget for the Phoenix PD. This department is statistically the most deadly city policing organization in the country and it is absolutely indefensible to allow this amount of resources to be used to further expand and militarize this department. Rather than squandering this funding by enabling PHXPD to perpetrate more violence in our communities, this funding MUST be redirected to community development and enrichment. Defund the police.

I strongly oppose the allocation of $944,680,555 to the public safety department. As a resident of the City of Phoenix I have seen the volatility of our police department, and the statistics show that we have the most civilian deaths due to police in the country. It would be irresponsible to grant such funds to the Phoenix police department as they have proven themselves undeserving. As a tax paying resident I much rather see more money going to education, healthcare, and job opportunities.

I strongly oppose the tentative budget of almost a MILLION dollars to the Phoenix Police Department. We should be reallocating a substantial portion towards any programs that would enrich the community at large- after-school programs, mental health services for at-risk families/individuals, and especially a community-driven Police Oversight Committee. The police department, if anything, need re-training on crowd control, safe de-escalation and anti-discrimination training.

Police are civil servants. Pass a budget that favors the people, not the police. Please and thank you.

I strongly oppose the nearly $1 billion allocated to the Phoenix Police Department. The Phoenix PD is one of the most violent in the nation and needs serious and swift reform. Phoenix residents and workers can not accept being policed by an institution which such a comprehensive history of violence and brutality and antagonizes and unfairly targets minorities and the poor. This $1 billion should instead be directed towards building up community infrastructure, environmental, and social programs.

Please reappropriate the over funding of the Phoenix PD to the development and enrichment of the communities which this council serves.
