I strongly oppose the proposed $944 million allocated to the public safety department for the upcoming year. This week alone has proven the police to be abusive of their authority. Most of them should be fired and new officers need better training. Please allocate most of these funds towards bettering our community development, education, the arts and our increasing homeless population.
FBI Crime stats indicate a decrease in crime in Phoenix from 2018 to 2019 in 7/10 indicators. This, coupled with a lack of transparency on the details of the Public Safety line item and no firm commitment to funding the Citizens Review Board at $3.0M, have me opposed to this budget.
Allocating funding to community departments, other than law enforcement, will fortify the foundation of society in such a way that law enforcement will be a lesser requirement. Therefore, an increase in future funding to support a department with fewer predicted action than it has in the current state operations should not be a requirement.
I oppose the funding proposed for the Phoenix Police Department, statistically one of the deadliest police forces in the country. As a tax payer, I would like more money allocated to after-school care, affordable housing, community development, and healthcare, especially for lower class communities.
In 2019 you heard the pain caused from local police brutality from your own city's people. The Public Safety Department can have almost $1million in funding, which is 38x higher than our Community Dev budget, and 53x higher than our Environmental Services budget. Please reallocate these funds. Invest in communities and local businesses, prioritizing the marginalized black and latino communities. Communities make us feel safe, not the fear enforcement. Empower us. Don't silence us.
I completely oppose the increase for Phoenix Police Department. There needs to be a civilian review board with subpoena power. Not one more cent until that is the case. There has been enough abuses committed by police officers in Phoenix and nationally.
Do the right thing councilmembers and mayor.
I strongly oppose the over funding of the PHX Police department in comparison to our community benefits. As a future educator I would rather those funds go to community minded approaches.
I strongly oppose the proposed $940,000,000+ towards out Public Safety department in 2020-2021 fiscal year. I ask that you redistribute the funds towards community enrichment and development. This includes the direction of funds to healthcare, mental health, and employment opportunities. The city of Phoenix deserves policing alternatives, appropriate funds that will create sustainable measures for our communities. Measures that encourage healing not suppression.
As a Phoenix resident, I strongly oppose the increased budget for the Phoenix Police Department until a significant change has been made to ensure that our black citizens and other people of color will not be in danger of being killed by the people who have sworn to protect them.
I strongly oppose the current budget. The police department is overfunded and the money could be better spent on public utilities, mental health programs, education, and housing, just to name a few. We need to invest in our communities, not attack the most impoverished. The Phoenix Police department is ranked the highest in the country in terms of police killing civilians. The past has shown us that training programs and attempting to use body cameras isn't enough. Defund the police!
I do not support additional funding for Phoenix PD. These funds should be redirected toward community services like mental health programs, education, and housing.
Reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our Public Safety Department for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment, and decrease spending on hypermilitarization of police.

We cannot continue to spend money on increasing police numbers and providing them with militarized equipment when we know these things do not help curb crime, but instead put our community members at risk. I am demanding the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget. We need more transparency and preventative solutions that focus on support systems, not more police.
My name is Tina Truong, and I am contacting you to reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our Public Safety Dept. for the 2020-21 fiscal year. I strongly oppose the allocation of nearly one billion dollars to the Phoenix Police Department. These funds should be redirected to programs that actually benefit the community, like healthcare and education. The Phoenix Police are an unnecessarily militarized group who use their strength to brutalize and oppress. Arizona has one of the highest levels of police brutality in the country. This is not something that should ignored or supported in any way. Please reconsider.

I oppose this proposed funding for the PHX PD. The PD should be defunded and the money put to actually useful uses, like the community,

Please reconsider the allocation of $944,680,555 and direct the funding to the educational system that is heavily in need of funding.
