This budget should NOT be adopted in its current form. The city manager's complaints at the last meeting about how long he's worked on the budget, and that we just must have a balanced budget, were ridiculous. The city manager is not elected by the people and the council's actions should not be subject to his whims. The police budget is ludicrous given the needs in the Phoenix community. We are in the midst of a pandemic, the LEAST Phx City Council could do is to reassess the city's priorities

I strongly oppose the proposed $944,680,555 for our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community is asking that you instead increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. We must prioritize healing and growth in our community over further militarization of our police force. It's time to focus on sustainable communities, justice, and dismantling systematic oppression and police brutality.

As a lifelong Phoenician, I oppose the $944 million budgeted for the Phoenix Police Department. The PPD repeatedly fails at their job and murders suspects. It is not up to the PPD to be the judge, jury, and executioner. If they can’t do their job correctly, then they do not deserve the money, plain and simple.

The Phoenix police department is one of the most violent police forces in America, and the current budget is an expansion of funds from previous years when it has been proven that a major step toward racial justice will be the complete de-funding and disbandment of the police. Stop this senseless waste of taxpayer money.

I would really like to see the city council do what is right & vote for the proposed budget. Phx PD needs more officers, more training and necessary equipment to keep the citizens of our city safe. They are negligently understaffed for a city of our physical size and population level. This money is needed. I DO NOT support OAT or pulling the money to fund it from the PD budget. Civilian oversight is already a part of the review process. DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND PASS THE BUDGET AS IS.

Taking any funds away from the PPD would be a huge slap in the face to our city’s law enforcement officers. This is a time we (and especially the city council) should show its support for our officers. Many, many, many more good officers out there than bad. PLEASE SUPPORT THEM !

I oppose the current proposed $944,680,555 allocated to the Public Safety Department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that are aimed at healing and educating. PHX PD is ranked disgustingly high for police violence, and it's clear that diversifying training is NOT ENOUGH. The people of Phoenix deserve better! We want policing alternatives and investments in programs that actually help our community.

I OPPOSE adoption of the budget as-is, we need to give the promised amount of money to the OAT and CBR. If you didn't budget for that amount, 25% of the public safety budget is a good start

The police claim to keep the people of Phoenix safe but for decades have terrorized communities of color and the poor. I insist that the police be defunded and the budget instead be invested in community health and education, rather than the violent white supremacists police. Research has shown time and time again that the greatest way to reduce crime and violence is to reduce poverty and by investing in communities we will see poverty drop and see a happier, healthier, and safer Phoenix.

I support the 2020-21 Annual Budget as submitted. Do not change any portion of this budget it is balanced and fair. Do not touch, remove or defund any portion of the Police I support the Phoenix Police Department.

I do not support additional funding for the Phoenix Police Department. Instead, that money should go to funding the OAT and CRB. The Phoenix PD is responsible for more civilian shootings than the NYPD and LAPD and I believe we need community involvement to hold them accountable. I will not feel safe in the City of Phoenix until we do so.

As a lifelong Phoenician, I do not support a rise in budget for Phoenix PD. There is no proof a raise in budget will not better issues of efficiency. Adding this amount of money to PD is GREEDY and DANGEROUS on the part of the PD and council if approved. Public departments function productively without this type of budget increase and PD has not proved that they deserve a budget increase. The pd is not protecting all of the public equally or well and this lack should not be rewarded with money.

I support the current budget as is because in order to improve training and provide quality service to the city, the money is absolutely needed for the phoenix police and fire department. Most of the people commenting on here are not even from Arizona. You cannot be for improvements and for defunding.

Defund the police by at least 25% and institute a civilian review board.

The current budget does not support either the OAT or CRB. At this point, the Phoenix PD has not announced any significant reforms or changes. Every other department offered to cut money or find funding to fund oversight to the police department, including the City Council itself. Passing the budget as-is does not hold the Phoenix PD accountable for misconduct and sends the message that future misconduct will be tolerated and protected.

I fully support the budget as is and do not support funding OAT.Phoenix PD needs to hire additional officers, more scheduled training, additional equipment in order to keep the city safer, all of that costs MORE money not less. When I'm in danger,in an accident,or hurt I want the police to respond,I don't want to be put in a queue because nobody is available due to lack of funding.I agree that other items such as mental health need funding too,but not at the expense of the public safety line item.

Stop terrorizing communities of color. Invest in your community, not in the third deadliest city police department in the country.

I ask that the council pass the budget, as is, that city staff has spent weeks crafting to maintain critical citywide services despite COVID19. Don't be intimidated or threatened into making decisions risking our long-term financial health, Federal & State funding, or public safety. You have the responsibility to use financial prudence as has been successfully done during budget crises in the past, look to the future, protect our financial health and standing, and protect public safety.

Pass the budget. We all need the police department, this would be a devastating loss to all of our communities. I am also against OAT!
