I demand that the City Council vote NO on the 2020-21 budget. In the middle of a pandemic, allocating $242 million to housing, human services, and community development is unjust! The $745 million spent by the council on policing is a waste. I demand you reallocate Phoenix PD’s gargantuan budget into the community. Your budget speaks to the priorities of your governing. Rather than investing in policing those who elected you into office, I implore you to invest in the people instead.

I am asking you to take the $25 million raise allocated to the Phoenix Police Department’s budget and instead invest it in the community. Instead of more police to harass black and brown citizens, Phoenix needs services that will actually improve the lives of its residents, like mental health services, youth programs, affordable housing, childcare programs, and more employment opportunities- remember how so many of us lost our jobs overnight?

Defund the police - redistribute part of their overinflated budget into the community so we can make our city a better place from the ground up. The police don't have our backs. Do what is right and stop putting an enormous amount of money into a broken and corrupt system.

Redirect the millions of dollars currently spent on militarizing the aggressively racist Phoenix police department to community wellness programs and enrichment initiatives. Defund the police.

Do not increase police funding. We have absolutely gutted education spending in Phoenix and Arizona. We are in the middle of a pandemic, where schools are being pressured to open with out any additional funds to create safe environments for teachers and students. How could you possible, in good conscious, increase police budgets (that are already too high) when that money could go towards education or other community programs?

In 2018 Phx pd had the most shootings out of thousands of police depts in the ENTIRE NATION. How is it possible that they are still demanding $3/4 of a BILLION when police do not even have the decency to treat a small child accused of stealing a doll with dignity. Demand that these police officers have a Bachelors degree in criminal justice, then you can start asking for money. A GED certificate does not merit almost a billion dollars. Fund community programs/homelessness/healthcare. #RespectUs

The police should be defunded and the money should be invested into community development.

I share the sentiment of many here in opposing the $745 million dollar police budget. I urge the city to focus their efforts and instead disperse that money towards the measly $96 million dollar human services budget - provide additional care for mental health, and affordable housing.

I oppose this budget. This is not the budget the people of this city need or asked for. $745 million dollars to the police department and only $96 million for human services (especially during a pandemic) is completely and utterly unacceptable. Phoenix votes no on this budget and we demand that the city council do the same.

I am demanding that Phoenix City Council votes NO on the proposed budget that would allocate over $700 million to the police. Phoenix is in desperate need of compassionate leaders who are willing to fight for the betterment of future generations. Do not finance an institution that does not know how and was never created to protect the people. I implore you to be on the right side of history, demand protection for Black lives, and justly invest in this community.

Focusing on the property damage and ignoring the terrorizing of people of color being done by some phx pd officers is the epitome of white privilege. Just like some want to address the criminality of a few looters, we the people of Phoenix want to address the criminality and impunity with which some police officers operate. Property damage is not ideal but it can be fixed w insurance coverage. Lives being stolen dont have insurance coverage against the terror being unleashed by phx pd

Phoenix needs to use the budget for community development and funding our public schools, NOT an increase in the police budget. I don't agree with awarding 745 million dollars to an entity that will defend anything over human rights and equality. It does not make any sense to reward bad behavior.

I oppose the increase of the Phoenix PD budget. Arizona's communities need to improve by receiving resources for primary education, public healthcare, and mental health services. Invest in people!

I’ve read through the hundreds of comments in opposition. Everyone is expressing needs for housing or counseling services. Redirect the $3million that is being squandered on OAT /CRB. Utilize the hearing boards that utilizes citizen volunteers that is already in place instead of setting up another layer of bureaucracy With all of the civil unrest our public has never been so threatened with such vile hatred in our streets. The criminal damages to property Is costing our city millions of $$$

Vote NO. Funds should be going to community programs, not the police.
