I oppose this budget and insist that the City of Phoenix divest from the police department and invest in its community. There is such a desperate need of funding in education, mental health care, rehabilitation, public health and community services. The safest neighborhoods aren’t the neighborhoods with the most police, they’re the neighborhoods with the most resources. Invest in building new and better resources for the Phoenix community. It’s times to DO BETTER!
As a Phoenix resident and essential healthcare employee, I strongly oppose the current budget proposal, especially the amount dedicated to public safety. I believe if the funds were better allocated in more ways to enrich communities rather than police them, there would be less of a demand for police in general. OPPOSE budget for fiscal year 2020-21 and Defund the Phoenix Police Department.
I oppose the current budget funding for the Phoenix PD. Please defund the police department and allocate more funding to education and public services for housing, mental health, etc.
I urge Mayor Gallego and city council members to vote against a budget that allocates only $242 million to housing, human services, and community development combined and then $745 million to the police. That money should be invested in to adequate community resources to support affordable housing, rent stipends, health services to overcome the pandemic, and expanded public transportation services.
$745 million for police and only $242 for housing, human services, and community development is an insult to the people of this city. I STRONGLY oppose this budget and demand these proposed funds for police be redistributed to more deserving entities. We need investment in EDUCATION, not the police!
I’m a Phoenix native and would love to see funding proposed for public safety equally distributed amongst it’s fellow programs; specifically mental health, community services and education!
Please reallocate money from the current police budget to other departments that are more necessary and beneficial to Phoenix residents. These other departments I would like to see receiving the funds from the proposed police budget are education, community services, public health, mental health resources and the parks and preserves fund. The police budget as proposed is completely out of proportion and needs to be lowered immediately.
Defund the police. The budget should be more focused on community needs, and funding the community as a whole. The police budget should never be more than the sum of all the other departments, or even close to that. Please adjust and reallocate the funds so that community, human, social, education, sustainability, and other departments get appropriate amounts, as they should already be. A better community starts with well-rounded funding and resources for the people in it!
I strongly oppose the proposed budget increase to the Phoenix PD and I think those funds should instead go to our education system, mental health resources, affordable housing, rental assistance, public health, health care and community enrichment. Our police are unnecessarily militarized and one of the deadliest police forces in the country. I do not support any further funding to the Phoenix Police Department.
I oppose the $744M Police Budget. As a tax payer in Arizona I demand that you Defund the Phoenix police department. How can they be getting so many funds when our roads drive like old cobblestone paths and our kids rank so badly in education? I want to see the Phoenix Police Department defunded and that money to be invested in education, mental health resources and housing.
I oppose this city budget. I insist, as a citizen and current essential healthcare worker during this global pandemic where we don’t even have the proper PPE still, that we divest police funds and invest in our city’s public health and community enrichment/development. Our homeless deserve safe spaces to reside to protect against COVID. We need to also divest funds to transportation. As a highly polluted but growing city, we must invest in alternative commuting options!

I am a City of Phoenix resident living in District 4. I oppose the adoption of the FY20-21 budget. In this budget, police are getting $25 million dollar increase while other departments are looking at having to cut up to 25% of their budgets. We are in the middle of a pandemic, and we need more money going towards affordable housing, rental assistance, and mental health programs. Vote NO and do better. Do not give Phoenix Police more money to kill people, give that money to people in need.
The proposed funding of Phoenix PD at 750 million is 700% that of ANY service that would serve to uplift, inspire, and educate the citizens of Phoenix. It is irresponsible of the Council to propose this outrageous amount when the rest of the city's services are forced to consider cut backs during the pandemic/economic crisis. A budget of this magnitude shows a failure of the City to care for it's people, for you plan on their failure. Why does the City Council think so poorly of Phoenicians?
I strongly oppose the proposed budget and encourage the reallocation of funds away from the police department, which is the most deadly in the country and towards areas that desperately needs funds such as, education, healthcare, and into the communities. Change is clearly needed in Phoenix now. Invest in your communities and listen to your constituents. Do not increase the Phoenix police department budget.
I oppose the $744M Police Budget. Defund the Phoenix police department. They absolutely do not need that money. I want to see the Phoenix Police Department defunded and that money to be invested in education, mental health resources and housing.
I demand that the City Council vote NO on the 2020-21 budget on June 17th. Phoenix needs more human services, not an increase in police funding. Especially in the middle of pandemic, only $242 million to housing, human services, and community development is NOT enough. The $745 million spent by the council on policing should be moved to human services and affordable housing and rental assistance programs.
Some neighborhoods like the HSC area needs PPD 24x7. Increase coverage there. But equally important is more compassionate, smart help and facilities for homeless, mentally ill, and youth AWAY from HSC. HSC IS TOO BIG, TOO SCARY. Please create other facilities elsewhere. Please open the St Luke's hospital for triage for people needing help. Please create funding for mental health experts to ride with police. Treat black, brown, LBGQT lives safely. Retrain the police. We can do better. PLEASE.
I oppose the $744million budget “bump” for the Police Department. Allocate these funds to education, healthcare, transportation, THE ARTS. Just so you know, I am a white woman living in Paradise Valley. I stand as an ally in solidarity with my fellow human beings of color. We are all done with the violence, murder, and injustice.
