How can you see with your eyes thousands upon thousands of proof and statistics proving that the police department is harmful to the community, and still decide to fund it? Please choose to fund compassion over power and oppression. The police department is corrupt. It’s obvious to anyone with the ability to see and listen. We need change now.
The council must vote no on giving the Phoenix PD $744 million. This money needs to be re-allocated towards services that actually serve the community. The Phoenix PD does nothing but harm the most marginalized and vulnerable in our community.
I OPPOSE this budget and DEMAND that the City of Phoenix divest from the police department and invest in its community. We are in desperate need of funding in education, mental health care, rehabilitation, public health and community services. The safest neighborhoods aren’t the neighborhoods with the most police, they’re the neighborhoods with the most resources.
I come from a place of privilege, I live in Awhatukee, I am blessed to have gone to one of the best high schools in the state. However, I have still seen what oppressors the police are in this state. They do not have the capacity to deal with people of mental illness or neurodiversity as many suffer from PTSD themselves without even realizing. Why is there mental health coddled with paid leave? Why is mine as a student left to suffer? Vote NO on this budget. Defend your future generations.
I demand that the city council vote NO in the 2020-21 budget on June 17th. Phoenix needs more mental health services, and youth programs especially for people of color, not an increase in police funding. Especially in the middle of a pandemic, only $242 million to housing, human services, and community development is NOT enough. The $745 million spent by the council on policing should be moved to education, rehabilitation, public health, employment opportunities, and after-school care. PLEASE!!!
Hello we must allocate our budget towards mental health programs, schools, drug addiction programs, and social workers. We need to be investing back into our community creating more skills, opportunity, and a safer space for people.
I am a community Physician, and I support defunding the police. Our public safety systems should work for the community. Until safe measures are in place, I cannot support the Phoenix police department. I do support re-distribution of funding to organizations that are supporting public safety, such as our public education system, substance treatment programs, and housing programs.
I oppose the current 2020-21 budget proposal of the city of Phoenix. We are in a pandemic, and the services we desperately need (housing, human services, and community development) are receiving a combined $242 million compared to the outrageous $745 million the Phoenix PD is set to receive. Vote no!
I am not in support of the proposed 2020-2021 budget. I urge Phoenix to invest in community development and human services not the police force/department. Our people need support in physical and mental healthcare and we need to be investing in fixing these issues.
I oppose this increase in funds for the police. This money could be better used to help struggling communities, communities that have suffered from a pandemic due of low or no funding from the city. It is for the best of public interest that we stop funding the police, a system that uses violence to solve problems, and instead actually fund things that can have true and meaningful solutions for our city. We need to invest in mental health services, youth programs, aiding the homeless and etc.
Would like to see less funds going to the police department and more funds going towards the community to address ROOT ISSUES caused by lack of education and lack of investment in the community. We especially need to invest in our youth. More after school programs, rehabilitation services, sustainability, social work support, parks, shelters for those experiencing homelessness in the heat during the pandemic, just to name a few of the things that the money would be MUCH better spent on!
I strongly oppose the proposed budget increase to the Phoenix PD and I think those funds should instead go to our education system, mental health resources, affordable housing, rental assistance, public health, health care and community enrichment. Our police are unnecessarily militarized and one of the deadliest police forces in the country. I do not support any further funding to the Phoenix Police Department.
Phoenix does not need to increase police funding. Instead, focus on building and strengthening communities. Invest in education! I demand that the Phoenix City Council vote No on the 2020-21 budget on June 17th. Defund the police.
I am a Phoenix resident in District 8. I strongly oppose the proposed budget which grants $745 million to the Phoenix Police Department, while providing a mere pittance to address serious needs in our community. We need to reallocate funds in our budget, particularly to affordable housing, mental and public health resources and youth educational opportunities.
As a taxpayer I beg of you to reallocate the $744M Public Safety funds to other areas of our community that so desperately need it. I am a mother of a 4 year old child and I am clinging to hope that our public schools will get the attention they need so our children get the education they deserve. We must do better and YOU can make that possible.
Please redistribute police funding into our community in the following ways... mental health services, youth programs, after school programs, adequate housing, help for the homeless, sustainability, employment opportunities, etc. PLEASE! WE ARE BEGGING YOU!

I oppose this bill. More money for mental health services and education and healthcare.

Vote no!! Fund the things that matter. The police receive well enough money

Defund Phx PD and reallocate funds to programs that promote health, education, and community enrichment.
