As a taxpayer who believes in strengthen our community. It’s important we allocate funds to education, housing, healthcare. Why is it we are last in education yet are number one in police violence and covid-19 infection rate? What message as a state are we sending to the world? It’s important we fund education to strengthen awareness of health and safety to stop this virus spread and crime rates. Educated people don’t need policing.
I am a Phoenix resident in District #4. Please consider reallocation of funds to further support crucial programming in our community, including: affordable housing, mental health and youth programs, human services, and community/economic development. As a medical student and future physician, I feel that investing in these areas is a wise choice for the health and well-being of our citizens.
I ask that you please reconsider relocating the funds that is being sent to police towards communities and services within our city that need it most. We need change and we need further support for our community more than ever.
It's time to allocate police funds to education, housing for homeless and community services. We need to start investing in our communities rather than policing them.
I love this city and support my fellow Phoenicians in asking that you reconsider fund allocation. I'd like to see more invested in education, mental health resources and housing.
Reallocate excessive funds from police to healthcare, mental healthcare, education, infrastructure and transportation for Black and Brown communities in Phoenix. Stop funding police violence. Fund resources, supports and services for healthy communities not state sanctioned violence and racial trauma.
Please reduce the proposed police budget. These funds would much better be put towards education, housing, public health, and other community services.
The police have proven themselves to be dangerous and lacking of proper training. I think it is too far gone for them to be properly reformed. The community would be much better served if their funding and responsibilities were cut and we instead funded other ways to keep our community safe.
Please reallocate the funds from the Phoenix PD budget to other areas that better benefit our communities (mental health services, youth programs, after-school care, adequate housing, employment opportunities).
I demand that the City Council vote ‘No’ on June 17th to the proposed 2020-21 budget. A gross and obscene increase in funding to the already over-funded Phoenix Police Dept. is the last thing that our city needs right now - or at any point in the future.
The people and communities of Phoenix deserve more than the proposed $242 million for housing, human services, and community development. This paltry sum serves as a sad indicator of where our city’s priorities lie. I’d love to stand corrected.
I strongly oppose the police funding and urge you to consider reallocating funds into community support such as: bettering education, housing, transportation, healthcare access, and overall community development.
Hello my name is Brittany Arnold. As a white female resident of Phoenix in District 6, I avidly implore you to reject the proposed police department budget of $745M. Those funds should be reallocated to bolstering the community in education and the arts. As an arts educator, I know firsthand how teachers struggle with underpaid salaries and the Digital Divide. I also know the arts are an economic drive for City tourism. Both vastly improve quality of life and contribute to lower crime rates.
I strongly oppose the PPD budget increase. Please allocate these funds to where they can better serve our community: education, mental health resources, housing.
Rather than increasing funding to the Phoenix police department, as a voter and compassionate citizen, I urge all city council members to vote no and use that money to fund new and grow current community organizations. Imagine a city where trained professionals work with the community to meet its needs. Imagine the BIPOC lives that would be saved. You have the power to start this change. We elected you to represent us. Hear us. Act.
Please reallocate funds going towards the police to education, healthcare, transportation, and infrastructure in black and brown communities in Phoenix. Doing so would both improve the Phoenix community by getting people access to what they need and protect black lives in our city. Police cannot fix the social circumstances we’ve forced our most vulnerable residents into with violence.
I oppose the $744M Police Budget. The Phoenix Police Department, the deadliest in the country, should be defunded. I propose taking money away from the police and putting it towards community development, housing, sustainability, health and human services, youth, and education. We as a city must address issues in our our community at their roots, not rely on police officers as the solution.
Excessive funds are allocated to the Public Safety (PS) and Criminal Justice (CJ) departments. Since '14, police-initiating killings raised 700% (Mesa) and 100% (Scottsdale) while the total budget raised 23%. These departments had the means to improve training methods to protect and serve the people; they did not. Proposed funds to PS and CJ departments must be cut in half and reallocated to Community Development and Community Enrichment programs to truly protect and serve the people of Phoenix.
I am asking for the reallocation $242 million of funds from the police funds to housing, human services, mental health, and community services.

Please allocate funds to community programs that help, not disenfranchise.

A complete overhaul is needed at this time. Change starts now!
