I strongly oppose Ordinance S-46741, the Adoption of the Final 2020-21 Capital Funds Budget. Defund the Phoenix PD and reallocate our taxpayer dollars to community development, and community enrichment policies and programs. The Phoenix PD is statistically ranked as one of the highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Our community deserves investment in mental health services, education, after school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

The amount of money going to the Phoenix Police Department is excessive & unnecessary! We need to defund our militarized police force. Let's use the money to better serve the Phoenix community. Invest in our communities & the people within them instead: affordable housing, education, mental health, reducing food deserts, education, access to health services. Phoenix police are statistically the deadliest in the country. The demands of the people need to be heard!

I am tired of schools receiving less and less money, while seeing the PHX PD’s budget get larger. Please invest in our schools and communities. We desperately need it.

Defund the police until they have proper training. Reroute the funds to education, social services and mental health services, as well as providing aid to the homeless.

I am a middle school teacher in a inner city, low-income community opposing the amount being allocated to the PHX PD. Instead, we should reinvest those funds in educational efforts, as the lack of proper education is arguably the root all crimes. On behalf of all teachers, it breaks our heart seeing schools have to cut programs (nurses, therapists, technology, extracurriculars), while the PHX PD still sees tremendous budget increases each and every year.

The public is not getting the results we deserve from the money we're investing in the Phoenix Police Department. I demand that City Council votes NO on the 2020-21 budget on June 17th. Phoenix needs more services for our homeless population, mental health, and at risk youth. That is how you protect your people. $242 million to housing, human services, and community development is not enough.

I am a resident and home owner in District 4. Please DO NOT approve this budget! 744 million to police in a 944 million public safety budget (which is six times the next largest general fund budget item for General Government) with additional enhancements and expansion of 30 million and 81 million respectively. Seriously? This is a gross misappropriation and inefficient use of funds. Reallocate these monies to fund community programs, housing, education, healthcare, and mental health services.

An irresponsible amount of funding is going to the police in the state lowest in education

Look at the amount of money going to the Phoenix Police Department. Incredible. Don't fund the militarized police. Let's use the money to better serve the Phoenix community. Invest in the social fabric of the city instead: affordable housing, education, mental health, reducing food deserts, education, access to health services.

The 3 million that went toward creating a Civilian Advisary Board for the Police was a small start. We still awarded one of the most violent police forces in the country with 25 million more dollars. In the wake of covid where we are looking to cut the budget to deal with the damage its caused, we need to look towards their overbloated and over funded budget, that turned our police into a military force. We need to start attacking crime tlat the root, we need to reinvest in our education system

Phoenix police department do not need any more funds until they can adequately train their police officers. Please relocate the funds to education and recreational programs for the youth. I would also like to see the funds go to helping homelessness and mental health.

Phoenix PD remains one of the deadliest police forces in the country. PLEA’s response to a ban on chokeholds was disturbing and threatening—reform clearly only makes them deadlier. Do not continue funding an unjust system.

I’d like to see general funds dispersed to departments that have an overall positive impact on our community (public health, education, mental health, community programs, etc. Phoenix PD does not need a raise.

Our children deserve a better education. Our community deserves better social work, mental health services, and affordable and public housing. We do not need more militarized police. Do not pass the budget. Please reallocate those funds into education and the community.

I am a college student in Phoenix who’s lived here my whole life. Phoenix Police and DPS are among the most violent law enforcement officers in the country. Please reallocate money from the Phx PD and DPS budgets in favor of community betterment such as expanding mental health, housing, healthcare, education, relief efforts during COVID-19 and more. It’s shameful that the Phx PD is getting 3/4 of 1B$ meanwhile Phx’s houseless sleeps in tents during the AZ heat and the pandemic.

I'm a home owner in Edison-Eastlake and want more funds going to human services which are proven to work more effectively than a militarized police force. We're expecting the police to respond to every situation when many 911 calls can be better serviced by a social worker, drug treatment staff, or homeless shelter case workers, etc. Please reallocate funds from the police to social services.

This funding needs to go to the community. We should be allocating funds to education, social services, and mental health

I opposed the proposed operating funds budget and ask that we defund the Phoenix Police Department and redistribute into community development and enrichment services. Arizona is known for having one of the deadliest police departments in America and currently the proposed budget does not reflect any solution for that.
