From District 2, I support all businesses and public places requiring masks for the safety of all until we get through this pandemic. Better late than never...This should have been in place from the beginning to keep our community safe, better protect the economy and slow the spread. After we slow the spread with these efforts, how about some advanced contact tracing by partnering with the metro area to allow the community to continue to try to reopen safely?

Out of the approximate 4,300,000 people in Maricopa County (about a fourth of those in Phoenix), there are 4,276,110 who are NOT ill and while there are 551 deaths among those 4,300,000 people over the past five months, the IFR (infection fatality rate) is a very small percentage of the total population. With the 517,666 tests, 7.5% testing positive, it is a small percentage. Do NOT punish the 1.5+ million healthy people in the city by mandating masks for all! I OPPOSE this!

I fully support wearing a mask in public and would ask that this be enforced so there are repercussions if someone is not masking. Our medical systems are being overwhelmed and this is a public health concern.

I support the face mask policy because we need to take responsibility to gain control of this public health crisis.

I vehemently oppose any edict requiring masks. This is not communist China

I work in a medical profession. Not only does the general populace not know how to accurately use a mask, but the evidence does not support its usage. I'm worried that it's going to cause more harm than good, particularly in people with health/breathing conditions or children like my son who are autistic. Please keep this a CHOICE.

I definitely support a mandatory mask policy. Apparently common sense is not so common. If everyone would follow guidelines set by health care professionals, we wouldn’t need to be discussing this issue. It’s not an issue of citizens rights. It’s beyond that. We are in a public health crisis. We need to get a handle on it.

I am a resident of Phoenix and strongly support mandatory masking. Evidence based research as well as the Arizona medical community supports the fact that masks save lives. No Arizona life is worth risking. If the governor won’t shut Arizona back down to save lives then this is the least Phoenix can do to protect the most vulnerable among us.

I support a city wide policy requiring wearing face coverings in public during the COVID-19 pandemic. The science is clear that wearing face coverings dramatically reduces transmission of the novel coronavirus. Despite the wealth of scientific information favoring face coverings, my observation is that few people are voluntarily wearing masks. Without a mandate, I fear this trend will continue and COVID-19 cases will continue to skyrocket, swamping our healthcare system and damaging the economy.

I support mandating a citywide face covering policy. I have observed many people not observing recommended social distancing rules from people in stores as well as in the workplace.

Being forced to wear a mask is unconstitutional!!! I will not concede! Stop the tyranny and fear mongering already. Are the protesters being required to social distance and wear masks??

You are responsible TO me, not FOR me. That aside ...

    NE Journal of Medicine:
...[W]earing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection... The chance of catching Covid-19...in a public space is therefore minimal. ... The desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic." https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2006372

    I oppose mandating masks!
The CDC states that long-term wear is dangerous. Its also discriminatory for those who cannot afford them or have breathing issues. In triple digit heat a mask restricts breathing could mean disaster. They also prevent outdoor exercise which HELPS prevent the virus as both Vitamin D and exercise boots the immune system. N95 masks are effective but flimsy handmade scraps of material do nothing but make a political statement. Hands touching masks = spread of disease!

Number of cases are increasing and our hospitals are becoming overwhelmed. People are not taking it seriously. Make masks mandatory

I strongly support a mandatory mask order to protect yourself and those around you. It is a civic duty to your fellow citizens to make sure we all have the best chance to make it through this covid-19 pandemic. Many of our friends, family and strangers around you carry with them invisible illnesses which they have little control over. Please do it for those of us that cannot stay home from work, but are at risk every day of exposure to something that may end our lives.
    Thank you.

I support mandatory face masks in the interest of public health. I believe scientists, doctors, and other experts when they show data that this is proven to help. Arizona is currently become one of the hottest spots for the virus, and anything short of requiring masks will not help. I have zero faith that the people opposing a requirement would choose to wear one, and we all need to be on board with something like this, even if you have to be forced.

Quit the oppression! Once the government starts taking they will never stop taking. Closing down businesses, telling us to stay home, denying us the right to assemble, lying to us about the economy and printing trillions of fake dollars. When will the oppression stop?

As an essential worker trying not to get sick, I believe face coverings should be mandatory. The damage done already shows exactly how cases continue to rise when places are open with no face coverings. Please. People will not be considerate enough to wear masks on their own.

This is absolutely ridiculous! We our grown people who have every right to make our own personal choice to not wear a mask! It is unconstitutional to mandate mask wearing to the people. My body my choice! If abortion, a killing of a baby is allowed then we are also allowed to make our choice too! If this is passed then we will definitely vote you out during election time. The people are fed up with this PLANdemic!

I strongly oppose mandatory masks. The rise in the number of new cases does not mean there is a spike. The fatality rate is going down. The average age of a positive test has dropped from 65 years of age to 40 years of age. This tells us that the most vulnerable population is taking care of themselves and that the hospital system is in no danger of being overrun. Mandatory masks are a sign of fear and not needed. What is the trigger to reverse this policy if implemented?
