1 Discussion and Consideration of Citywide Face Covering Policy

This is a step that must be taken by the city of Phoenix. IN cities and states that mandated face masks, the spread of COVID-19 was much less and the recovery came much quicker. We are way behind the curve on this, but it is better late than never. I implore all the members of the council to vote for this measure and create a manner for enforcement so that this is not an empty order. An order without enforcement will not move the curve. Thank you for your consideration

I strongly support a policy that mandates mask wearing. It is clear that the simple act of wearing a mask can save lives and that some will not do this without a mandate. I urge the City Council to implement a mask mandate.

I strongly support requiring face masks. Phoenix should recognize the advice of trusted medical professionals and take this simple step to help protect the community. Many people will not wear masks unless required and such a policy will have an impact in fighting the spread of COVID-19, while not imposing any real burden on anyone. This should have been done long ago and it's disappointing our state leaders have delayed the process so long.

I strongly oppose any mandate for face coverings, this is a land of individual liberty and responsibility. If a person believes they are at risk it is their choice to act accordingly.

Absolutely not. Freedom is a choice.

As a physician, I strongly support a mask mandate. Unless you have a severe underlying respiratory condition, there is no valid reason that a person can’t wear a mask in public spaces. Masks have been proven to be effective at preventing transmission of infectious diseases. Healthcare providers wear masks all day, all the time, without becoming sick, hypoxic, or hypercarbic. Listen to your doctors: mandate masks in public.

Strongly oppose wearing a mask! I want my young children to return to school and they will not be wearing a mask 5 days a week all day that’s just absurd! I’m not going to gym and having to wear a mask while I workout! It is my choice! Do not take my rights away from me!

I dyrongly oppose the mandated use of masks. It should be voluntary if anything.

I strongly oppose the mandate of wearing face coverings. Face coverings provide a false sense of security and actually do not protect the wearer at all. Maintaining a social distance works best along with proper hand washing. If you want to do something that actually may work, provide hand washing stations at the entrance and exit of all facilities. Also, we must allow "herd immunity" to do happen, otherwise, we will be fighting this same fruitless battle for years to come.

I strongly support a citywide policy mandating the use of face masks. It is important for all community members to keep each other safe, and this is such a simple and straight forward way we can help each other. I wear a mask for everyone I encounter outside my home, please ensure that my fellow community members wear a mask for me.

The only way to stop the spread of COVID-19 is to control how it spreads, and the only way to do that is with social distancing and face masks. I strongly urge the requirement of wearing masks. They protect us from others and others from us.

I oppose Face Coverings for the reason that 1) I believe my immune system needs to build up not only COVID-19 but other Viruses. 2) reserch shows COVID-19 is only airborne in certain and very extreme conditions. I would like to speak at meeting. Thank you

I will not abide by any mask mandate! Focus on solving real issues. Your spike is from your "protesting" riots. Look at the death percentages, quit looking at the number contracted. Unfortunate fact is we need to contract it to build immunity. This is a dangerous grab of government control, what mandate are you going to do next? You are prolonging our ability to build immunity and move on with our lives. Keep this up and you wont stay in office long.

You won’t die from C02 exposure. We need this. Look at how bad AZ is right now we’re above Brazil at this point (per capita) with how out of control the virus is here. The mask isn’t for you the individual it’s for us as a community. Stop being stupid.

Please mandate wearing of any types of masks! Surgical masks are very safe I’m a dental school student and we wear them all day everyday. They DO NOT cause any harm as some people are worried about. It’s just uncomfortable for some people that are not used to it. We’re in a state of emergency please realize this and listen to the physicians that are begging us to wear masks!

As Phoenix resident with asthma, it's sad to see people oppose masks not because they have a large adverse impact on them, but merely because it's their right to oppose mask wearing. Sadly, we have community members who care more about standing up for a slight improvement to their comfort, than the safety of fellow citizens.

I wish all Phoenix citizens would wear masks on their own. But because they don't, I support a citywide policy requiring Phoenix residents to wear face coverings in public
