1 Discussion and Consideration of Citywide Face Covering Policy

I support this policy and am more than willing to do my part to reduce the spread. There is significant precedent for mandating that individual citizens take safety precautions. Whether or not you believe seatbelts work, you are mandated to wear one. Simple face coverings are a temporary, minor inconvenience with significant public health benefits.

I strongly support this policy. It's important for us to keep each other safe in our community.

I oppose this because it is a false sense of security. Masks cut off oxygen to the brain and make people hypoxic. Germs can still pass through the mask if there are germs around. This isn't communist China to force people to wear masks. Even they had an alleged outbreak wearing masks for years now. Masks are a false sense of security and can make you sick.

It is unlawful to force people to wear a mask. If you choose to wear a mask that is your free choice, however to impose on the rights of free citizen is not right. If you are worried about getting the virus then by all means continue to self quarantine. But to force others to wear a mask is wrong. If we are to use this logic consistently, and I would like to request that everybody is forced to carry a gun at all times. So we can all be safe against criminals.

Wearing a mask is a personal choice. They are not effective against COVID-19 and they carry health risks to the person wearing one. My body, my choice!

Can you provide scientific data that face coverings work? Are there any RCT’s to support even the consideration for making this a requirement? I have not found any.

Don't mandate masks. You can't legally give medical advice as you are not a doctor and not MY doctor. Masks cause decreased oxygen, increased carbon dioxide, fatigue, dizziness, respiratory distress, etc. Let alone in our extreme heat- dangerous health consequences to come. If you force masks, you hereby assume liability for any medical issues from wearing said mask for my family and I. If it makes you feel better to recommend masks, go ahead- don't mandate that agenda on me or other citizens.

Please don’t listen to the uneducated conspiracy theorists and instead do what is overwhelmingly recommended by healthcare professionals. We already tried convincing citizens to act responsibly and they’ve failed miserably. You must mandate masks to protect Phoenicians. We all need to be in this together.

Cloth face masks pores are 80 – 500μm. The size of the virus is 60 – 140 μm. Virus passes by 88% room to spare. You are more likely to touch a surface with the virus and rub your eyes. You will take the mask off to eat, drink, set it down now its on your mask. Not to mention the virus is propelling breath right out of the mask. Studies show that extended usage of masks cause hypertension, tachycardia, respiratory failure, headaches and skin damage. #maskup is just prolonging immunity

I do not support this mandate. Wearing a mask will not allow people considered low risk to achieve natural immunity and in turn preventing our population from achieving herd immunity. Herd immunity is the only way we can overcome this virus.

I reserve the right to make medical decisions about my body and my family's bodies. You are overstepping your boundaries by even considering mandating this action. As a History teacher, I know this is unprecedented in our state/country. I have been following the developments of this "crisis" and nothing the "experts" have predicted nor warned about was correct. The models were speculation and the fear mongering has caused unrest to flourish. You cannot regulate the air I breathe. Enough already!

It is not legal for you to do this. If you feel masks keep you safe wear one.You don't know all the health issues in Phx They can be bad.
Whom will enforce this? No one came out against the riots or protests concerning the virus. Now we should take you serious. What's next? Some people are upset by red hats do you mandate we can't wear them? Black lives Matter t-shirts scare some, do you mandate we can't wear them? It gets ridiculous right? That's why we are free! What law backs this overreach?

As a physician who performs sterile procedures and wears masks for hours on a daily basis, I support universal masking. Masks do not cause any issues including hypercapnia or brain damage to users without severe underlying respiratory issues. Masks have been proven to be effective at prevent transmittance of infectious pathogens by the wearer. These masks have been used for a long time by healthcare workers to protect immunocompromised patients in the hospital settings.

I live in District 3 and am adamantly opposed to forcing residents to wear a mask in order to buy or sell. Huge violation on our personal liberties. Model after model has been majorly off. Maricopa County has seen less than 600 deaths among 4.5 million people. Also, “science” is anything but trustworthy. People who want to of course can but we are tired of being treaded on! You’ve already destroyed our economy, don’t push it. There is a silent & strong majority who won’t abide.

Wearing masks can be harmful, especially for children. Mandating this will cause more protesting and further spreading of the virus. If masks work, then those who choose to wear one are protecting themselves. There are many reasons not to wear a mask. These people will be receiving hate for doing what's best for their health by not wearing one. The death rate matters, but it's just not high enough to to mandate an emergency mask wearing policy.

    Opposition:
1: Facial coverings increase exposure to pathogens by allowing airborne viruses to stay closer to the face. This includes the world's heavily watched virus, as well as other various viruses. They also increase risk of lung infections by raising humidity and lowering oxygen levels in the lungs, causing a rich environment for bacteria and viruses to thrive.
    2. Facial coverings reduce the ability to cycle oxygen and CO^2 properly, and increase risk of hypercapnia.

Mandating masks is a violation of civil liberties and property rights. Not to mention the negative health aspects of breathing your own Co2 constantly...you'll be responsible for the deaths of many people if you implement a mandate.

Any Council-member that votes in support of a mandate, will have a recall petition filed in their name. Including the Mayor.
