I strongly support the Public Safety budget. This is not allocated to just Police but Fire as well so the needs of the communities they serve can be met.
Valley is growing. We need PD but better character and training is still needed. Any coworker should be able to correct another if they see that humanity is being wrongfully treated especially when rogue cops have a judge and jury mentality..lets get back to doing jobs without backlash at ea other. Noone is above the law including Police.
I oppose the proposed funds to the PPD and demand that these funds be redistributed to support the impoverished and minority groups, as well as to our education system and community centers. By providing more job opportunities, education, and community development to AZ communities, we can limit crime rates and ultimately limit the need for police patrolling. With more education and more jobs, people are less prone to committing crime. It’s time to be proactive, not reactive
The men and women if the Phoenix Police Department have worked tirelessly to keep our city safe. We are the 5th largest city in the country, we can not afford to defund our Police Department. We are already understaffed, and have been working under minimum staffing since 2008. These men and women put their lives on the line each and everyday to keep our city, out loved ones safe. I do not support the defunding of our Police Department and believe it would have negative affects for years to come.
The proposed funding allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year must be changed. Those funds need to be redirected to programs that support our communities, not threaten them. We need real investments in the civilian review board, mental health care, social workers in schools, education, community health care. Increase the budgets for community development and enrichment so that we might survive, thrive and not live in fear and be terrorized by the police system.
We must support the funding of our PPD. Our community deserves to feel safe and I fully support Chief Williams and the great officers in the Phoenix Police Department.
APPROVE THIS BUDGET for the police. We need to fully support these men and women, who diligently work to protect us, every day! Don’t fall victim to the lying media and ignorant voices!!
I oppose this budget proposal. We must defund the police. Almost a billion dollars can do so much more good for our community if we put it in the hands of people/organizations that will actually contribute to change. This money should be allocated as needed to help provide social services, education, and other services besides the PD. When people's needs are met there is no need for policing. Any additional funds allocated to the police should focus on ensuring no more police murders take place.
When looking at the current state of our community, I strongly suggest that additional funds be allocated towards human services & public housing. We still have many individuals who struggle to obtain even basic human needs because the cost of living is so astronomically high in comparison to minimum wage. We need to provide opportunity for housing and services for mental and medical health. This is especially important considering the fact that the homeless population continues to be displaced.
I SUPPORT establishing and fully funding the Civilian Review Board and the OAT as already approved by the City Council.
I SUPPORT increased funding for programs that directly benefit our community, including after school programs for kids, mental health services and humane programs to help our homeless. Programs that help the poor and the homeless help reduce crime.
I DO NOT SUPPORT more policing as it does not reduce crime.
I DO NOT SUPPORT funding increases for the Phoenix PD.
Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. I ask that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development & community enrichment.
The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives & investments in mental health & trauma services, education, after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, & employment opportunities
As Unitarian Universalists, we value each and every human life. We want money spent on programs that support communities, especially Black, brown, indigenous communities, and actually reduce violence: affordable housing, mental health, education, and social services. The police don't need a penny more, let alone a $25,000,000 raise, after gassing entire neighborhoods and holding protestors in jails overnight during a viral pandemic. Invest in community, not cops.
The Phoenix Police department requires adequate funding. If we are to see real change, If we are to increase the trainings of our officers on cultural awareness and community outreach and support then they are going to need the budget to reflect the resources needed to bring true reform. Bringing an end to racial injustice and police brutality does NOT bring an end to actual criminals committing actual crimes. This department is already understaffed to adequately keep all areas of Phoenix safe
I Strongly support the Funding of the Phoenix Police Department. It is IMPERATIVE they have adequate funding in order to provide proper training, resources, and staff to allow them to work safely and efficiently.
I ask that you decrease funding to the Police and redirect to programs that positively influence our community. Funds of this amount are doing no good, exemplified by the continued occurrence of police brutality. What items are deserving of these funds? Affordable housing, healthcare, education, community enrichment to name a few. The proposed budget towards the police is wasteful until we have just people whose goal is not to harm (or have the community fear them), but treat all just and equal.
I am demanding the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget on June 3rd.
I strongly support the funding of the Phoenix Police Department. Every citizen, even those who oppose the police, need the protection and order that the police provide in our community. Even your own anti-police council member Garcia, since elected, has called on the police for assistance. The laws of this state and the local city ordinances aren’t worth the paper they are written on without the brave officers who are willing to risk their lives to enforce them. They deserve our support.

We need to allocate these funds to the community. Demilitarize the police. Education, social services, affordable housing, etc could use this money.

Defund the Phoenix PD. The money can be better spent on programs that help the community (mental health, housing, etc.).
