I strongly oppose. Our city can be safe without additional funding for the police. We can Build this city up if we invest in our community and in community-led infrastructure instead of racist policing. Please let’s use this money for community lead initiatives.
It's wrong that you are giving an order of magnitude (over 900 million dollars) to "public safety" when police don't make people feel safe. Fund therapists to respond to 911 calls. Fund social workers. Fund park systems and community centers. Fund schools more so that students will have a great education and become a successful member of a new society, one that celebrates people rather than hunts them. Defund the police and give that money to initiatives that help your community!
I oppose the current allocation of $400K for the Office of Accountability and Transparency and ask the Mayor and Members of Council to reconsider and increase the FY21 budget allocation. Why is $400K not enough? The size of this department requires more resources for effective oversight. The FY20 Budget allocated funding for 3,274 authorized sworn officers (or 2.04 for every 1,000 residents) and 1,093.6 civilian employees. Two staff members in the OAT is not enough for effective oversight.
Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. I would like to see these funds redirected to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. Phoenix needs to better invest in mental health, trauma services, education, arts and culture, afterschool care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
The Phoenix community asks that you redirect funds from the Phoenix PD into programs that will better benefit our city. Phoenix has one of the highest number of police brutality + killing civilians in the nation. Other programs such as education, healthcare, and sustainability are more beneficial to the betterment of our health and safety of everyone in the community.
The current system of policing doesn't work.We need to invest in mental health services, after school programs, solutions for homelessness. Fighting poverty and it's side effects is a much more effective way to reduce crime. $400,000 isn't enough for Civilian Oversight that's independent, investigative, transparent and community driven. Fully fund oversight!
I think that we have shown as a civilization over the last couple weeks that we are emotionally driven and at times irrational. And then during those times others rise up and take advantage of the situation for personal gain at the expense of others and society. It’s those times we need even more of the police to help reestablish and maintain law and order. Defunding them is not the answer to correct societies woes.
We the people of Phoenix demand a decrease in the police budget, in favor of public housing and social services. End the austerity against public programs and services.
Phoenix is a growing city with growing demands from our Phoenix Police. We need to give them more resources for recruiting, hiring and training. We also need to have a strong, united police force during this time of civil unrest. Our Police officers need to know that we do support them and that we know that the horrible actions of a few do not represent the millions and millions of GOOD deeds these men and women do for our communities EVERY DAY. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR POLICE WITH MORE BUDGET!!!
I oppose increase funding to the Phoenix PD. There are literally so many alternatives that can be funded and that are NEEDED in our community; such as investments in mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. We need to protect the lives of our Black community members/community members of color. I respectfully request that you defund the Phoenix PD.
I am for reconsidering the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that HELP & EDUCATE our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets FOR OUR SCHOOLS, HOMELESS POPULATION, ADEQUATE HOUSING, PROTECTING STATE PARKS & ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY.
I am asking the city to reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks you redirect funds to programs that heal & educate our community. The city of Phx is statistically ranked the highest nationally for police brutality. The city of Phx needs & deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health & trauma services, education & after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, & employment opportunities.
Reallocating 944,000 public safety budget away from police to go towards transportation? Mental health? This would be the dumbest thing ever done! You're going to use MCSO?! They dont have enough deputies as it is. They don't have enough dispatchers either. This is the 5th largest city in the country. Act like it!

I overwhelmingly oppose the $944,680,555 allocated to our Public Safety Department for the 2020-21 fiscal year; especially those funds which support a police department that is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases for police killings. I encourage the funds be redirected to increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for Community Development and Community Enrichment and invested in trauma, mental health, educational, and healthcare services.
How are they expected to make changes without proper funding?
I strongly oppose. Our city can be safe without additional funding for the police. We can Build this city up if we invest in our community and in community-led infrastructure instead of racist policing. Please let’s use this money for community lead initiatives.
I support passing the budget and funding the police department
