I strongly oppose the proposed budget. I believe that putting almost a billion dollars into public safety is not what the Phoenix community needs. We need improvements our public transportation, community enrichment and environmental services so please consider allocating that money in those areas. Putting all this funding in public safety is not going make our communities safer nor reduce police brutality and violence. They need better training on how to interact with the public, not money.

I am asking the city to reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department and redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment.

The city of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

Our Community asks that you redirect funds from Phoenix Police to programs that heal and educate our community. The City of Phoenix is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Police forces across the country have proven that diversifying and implementing various trainings have not and will not end police brutality.

The Phoenix Police and police programs nationwide have long abused their power and contribute to systemic racism. Instead of further funding the police department, funds should go into programs to facilitate the healing and growth of lower-income and minority communities through mental health, health insurance, after school care, housing, and employment.

I strongly oppose the budget. Phoenix PD needs to be defunded and investments made in areas that directly target the problems of public safety, such as housing, employment, and mental health care. I hope the proposed $944 million will be redirected to publicly financed supportive housing, community-based anti-violence programs, trauma services, school counselors, after-school programs, and restorative justice programs.

I strongly oppose. Police forces across the country have proven that diversifying and implementing various trainings have not and will not end police brutality.

The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in the community: mental health, trauma services, education, affordable housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

I am in full support of funding law enforcement. Defunding the police would only create less opportunities for effective training to be administered to the current and future law enforcement officers. In addition, it would create exhausted officers who cannot effectively provide aid to the community. Funding our officers can go toward effective training in regard to dealing with all races that can help provide understanding and mend the relationship with the community.

I urge you to reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our Phoenix community will suffer should this budget succeed. I instead ask you to redirect funding into sustainable and safe alternatives such as community programs, mental healthcare, adequate housing, rehabilitation services, and education. Funding community-based programs is crucial to the safety and wellbeing of Phoenix citizens. Defund Phoenix PD. Reject the budget.

I strongly oppose giving nearly a billion dollars for funding to the police. We would be much better off if we focused on giving people better opportunities through education and transport rather than paying for an over funded police force especially prone to violence.
